After sitting in Harvard Stadium and watching the Big Green football team get its clock cleaned for the second week in a row, it was a relief to wander back to the Embassy Suites Hotel and help HerbMcCord open up the class of 1964 minireunion. The weather was perfect, and from what I could surmise, about 40 '64s, their significant others, and children were in Cambridge enjoying the game, the autumn foliage, and the Head of the Charles Regatta.
Bob Brayton, looking disgustingly fit, was in town to compete in the Head of the Charles Regatta, an event that draws about 3,800 rowers and close to 250,000 spectators. He brought me up to date on the latest scientific relationship between lactic acid accumulation and the inversion layer over Denver's Mile High Stadium.
Al and Patty Gruber were in for the game. They live in Norwich, Conn., and have three sons, one of whom is currently attending college in Spain. Al teaches business law and management and Patti also teaches at Monhegan Community College.
Also in Boston from Norwich were SteveCoit and wife Jane Samuel. The Coits have two daughters, 17 and 13.
Perhaps the highlight of the afternoon for me was an all-too-brief interlude spent with three of the most charming young ladies in town. Dick Couch's three daughters were with him and they are terrific—Brooke 8, Alexa 10, and Chloe 13. They are in grades 3, 5, and 9 respectively.
Bob Engelman was in Boston on Friday for the class executive committee meeting, but it wasn't until Saturday that we met his wife Lynn Van Buren. It will be required that she accompany him on all future trips to Boston.
Others who I managed to catch sight of and write down on the back of my wife's hand were Ron Schram, Sabin Danziger,Derick Denby, Chris Palmer, Jim Hughes,George Fesus, Carl Durei, and SandyMcGinnis.
