Our big news now is the advance registration for our 40th reunion from Monday, June 9, through Wednesday, June 11. Nearly 200 classmates have already responded. Some plan to come to Hanover from great distances. Ray and Sue Dewees may set the record by coming from County Wicklow, Ireland. They also will see son Chris '86 graduate on June 10. Many others also have indicated that they plan to attend while some have yet to let reunion chairman Jack Whitman know of their intentions. With all these faithful planning to return from great distances, there should be plenty of inspiration for others to share in the celebration.

Bob Owen writes that he took early retirement in 1984 from Citicorp, where he had been managing director of the Bank Consulting Group. He now has formed his own company, providing strategic and financial planning services to bank clients all over the country. Jean and Bob ease off every three months for a couple of weeks of travel and recreation and plan to be back.

Ed Simon relocated to the Montgomery, Ala., eight years ago and says he doesn t miss the snow-shoveling, at all. His son-in-law has joined him in business and lightens the load. He reports visits with Joe Verdi on his forays into the North. Both will be back for reunion.

Ross Bacon is a retired schoolteacher and basks in the South Carolina life-style and weather, playing lots of golf on two local courses in Beaufort, and he bowls with a very active senior citizens league, where one loses one's spot with less than a 155-165 average.

Frank Carleton has just retired to Hendersonville, N.C., after 31 years with Prudential and is enjoying life there. All three children are living in the Philadelphia area, which makes family visits easier.

Jack Witte writes that they have just returned from the wedding of son Eric '77 and his classmate, the former Helena Sias '77. There were more than 30 Dartmouth men and women gathered in Westport, Conn., for the splendid event.

It is with deep regret that we report the death of James Louis Dolby Jr. of Los Altos, Calif., who passed away on Novem- ber 13, 1985, of a sudden heart attack. After leaving Dartmouth, Jim received his M.A. in mathematics at Weslyan and his Ph.D. in statistics at Stanford. He served as a senior research associate at the University of Newcastle upon Tyne in England and in other research positions with C-E-I-R, Inc., Lockheed, General Electric and several companies, specializing in matters involving statistics, computing, and computational linguistics. He authored more than 20 technical papers in the field. Jim is survived by his wife, Eula, and their five children. Our condolences go out to them in this time of loss.

Best wishes. Please keep in touch. Hope to see you in Hanover for reunion.
