In early March Dick Harris was elected to the board of directors of Anderson, Clayton, and Company. Dick joined the company in 1964 at its Bakersfield, Calif., operation. He subsequently served in the army from 1964 to 1966 as a captain in the transportation corps, returning to the company as an administrative assistant in the corporate commodity trading department in Houston. Dick was promoted to a variety of administrative and managerial positions in several of the company's businesses, most recently vice president, industrial, at corporate headquarters in 1983 and group vice president in 1984! In addition, he has served as chairman and president of Ranger Insurance since August 1984. Anderson Clayton is a diversified foods company with major operations in the U.S., Mexico, and Brazil.
Sandy Apgar, recognized as an authority on international real estate investment management, has been elected to the investment committee of Oxford University's Magdalen College in Oxford, England. Sandy is the first American to serve on the committee. Magdalen College was founded in 1458. The committee advises the president of the college on policies and procedures for investment and management of the college's endowment. About 60 percent of the college's investments are in real estate, mostly in Great Britain. Sandy, a former graduate student at Magdalen, was elected to the committee by the governing body of the college on the recommendation of the college president, Dr. Keith Griffin, also an American. The three other members of the committee are British financial authorities. Sandy is president and CEO of Wellington Real Estate, a Washington-based firm that creates and manages real estate investment programs and portfolios for institutional and private clients in the U.S. and other countries. Sandy has authored two books and more than 40 articles on real estate, corporate management, and urban policy issues as well as a survey of foreign investment in U.S. real estate.
