A retirement bonus now that we're relocated in the upper Connecticut River Valley is the opportunity for classmates to give us a call and stop by for a visit when they're in the area. One such pleasant surprise was the visit to our home of Jack and Ruth Howard, who were in Hanover for a wedding. My old teammate and fraternity brother is showing no signs of slowing down with his Skaneateles, N.Y.-based business endeavors. At this writing, the Howards have seven grandchildren scattered from Seattle, Wash., to upstate N.Y. Jack reports seeing Buol Hinman fairly regularly in Rome, N.Y., and that Buol's family and steel business are doing very well.
Reg Pierce reports that 1946's Paul Lux,Ed Scheu, Phil Struhsacker, and DaveWhipple were in attendance in May at the 100th anniversary celebration of the Casque & Gauntlet senior society.
Don Mason states he is selling his home in Bryson City, N.C., and will be "on the road" for the next two to five years. Sounds interesting, Don. Can we expect periodic reports a la Charles Kuralt?
Another classmate pulling up stakes, after 25 years in Princeton, N.J., is GrahamBrush. He and Kay have moved permanently to their summer home in New Preston, Ct.—P.O. Box 2546, Tanner Hill Road, 06777, for those who wish to write or visit.
Still another '46 who has made the permanent move to a summer home is BobYung. Bob and Betty now reside in Spring-ville, N.Y., and will winter in Cape Coral, Fla. In his 37th year as a field underwriter with MONY Financial Services, Bob still enjoys his work and loves sailing.
Nice note from Dick Scharrer regarding his trip in May for the dedication of the new Berry Sports Center. In addition to enjoy-able visits with Dune Fitchet and Bill Craig '44, Dick stated that the dedication ceremonies, dinner, and symposium were "in the great Dartmouth tradition," with the latter featuring the impressive pro footballer Reggie Williams '76.
Our retired American Airliner pilot, Fletch Ingals, now living in the Lake Tahoe area in Glenbrook, Nev., manages to keep active with skiing, tennis, and travel. Also he is currently chairman of the board of trustees of the Lake Tahoe General Improvement District. Besides finishing two additions to their home, Fletch and Mary have just returned from an Alaskan cruise, so things appear to be going smoothly in the high Sierras!
Dr. Bill Schillhammer, who is still active in corporate practice as v.p. and medical director of National Life Insurance Co. in Montpelier, Vt., reports that he and Shirley plan to retire next spring to travel, fish, and "spoil the grandchildren" (four to date). Oldest son, Bill '76, is an engineer with Intel Corp. in Massachusetts; Gary '77, is in family practice in the state of Washington; and their daughter, a collegiate nursing graduate working at Mary Fletcher Hospital in Burlington, Vt., was married in April.
All for now. Keep those cards and letters coming, or call me at 603/448-6941.
