Miss my last issue? Well, as they say, absence makes the heart grow fonder . although usually of someone else ... so who you got in mind? When we last huddled it was nigh upon the Christmas season, and you'll probably join me in thanking the seraphim and cherubim that that one's over for another 12 months. One more office party and it was the Peace Corps or Vista for this babe.
Let's see what I have for you. A few weddings to announce. Andy Lewin was married in November 1986 to Marina Weitzman in Weston, Conn. Andy graduated from Columbia Law after Dartmouth and is now an associate at Reavis and McGrath in New York. Molly Sundberg married Doug Van Metre in Minneapolis in September 1986. Both are now assistant vice presidents at Norwest Bank but would like to note that the dinner conversation does not revolve around portfolio analysis. Sally Ankeny Reiley, Pam Donovan, and Amy Beringer were in the wedding. While we're on Minneapolis, word has it that Jane Alexander Kelley is out there honing in on the perfect job.
Bill Proom, now at Tuck, announced his engagement in December 1986 to Maty Allen 'B3. And since engagements are the subject, I have been asked to rectify a false report (namely mine) that Alison Sirkin is engaged. She is not. Meaculpa. Now will the person who fed me the info please own up. I'm a trusting soul. (That is not an open invitation, mind you, to the provision of bogus tidbits to a now less gullible class secretary.) And while we're on the subject of errata (no, Olin, that is not a dirty word), a bemused Bill Barker wrote in objecting, of all things, to being referred to as Bob Barker in a previous issue. He first noticed the mistake when an agent in a liesure suit appeared at his door demanding his commission. Last marriage to announce, albeit delayed, is that of Erin and ChrisToll. They are now on an eight-month around-the-world honeymoon, after finishing up at UVA Law. Chris actually finished in 1985 and spent a year clerking in Washington. Both will be practicing in Denver when they decide to come home.
Other news . . . Greg Slayton was out of Africa for Christmas for a short visit. Greg is still with the development agency- World Vision and has been transferred from Senegal to Bamako, Mali, where he is now division chief. He's been working on locust infestations, irrigation projects, and the like. The next project is cock- roaches in Manhattan. He has many an interesting tale to tell and would welcome any visitors to the continent. John Byrne would also welcome visitors, particularly the paying kind. He just had a nice write- up in the Jackson Hole News for his pur- chase of a 75-room inn in Teton Village. I quote, "With that acquisition, Byrne has become one of the largest and youngest players in the Jackson Hole lodging in- dustry." And in so doing, John left Wall Street and the trading room at Solomon Brothers far behind and got going the dream that had been lurking around in the back of his head for some time. A lesson to us all.
Rob Corell has also changed jobs. He is now in Waltham, Mass., as a computer graphics artist for Graphic Communicat ions/Lotus Corporation. In the off hours, he's working for a B.F.A. in graphic design at the Massachusetts College of Art. Greg Fossedal has been spending most of his time in print. Greg is an editorial writer for the Wall Street Journal and has had favorable reviews on his recent book A Defense That Defends: Blocking Nuclear Attack (Dodd Mead, 1984). It was described by the Washington Post as the "earliest and most readable volume on the Star Wars defense program." Greg's work has appeared in the American Spectator, The NewRepublic, Commentary, The National Review and Policy Review.
Tad Sharp is now in San Francisco working in real estate syndications, and Steve Herzog has moved to London with Morgan Guarantee, still focusing on the Middle East. He offered a tour of Thai restaurants on the King's Road on my last trip there. Graciously accepted, of course. Toby Reiley is foraging into the world of mortgage brokering in Boston, having recently sold his business in inflatable advertising for a tidy sum. And PanchoRyan is reportedly down at Yale doing a joint degree in business and architecture.
So, that's it for another session. We'll reconvene next month. And, by the way, a belated happy new year.
