"No News is Good News" has been replaced by "Good News is No News." I ouldn't find anything in my Boston newspaper about the Dartmouth Commencement. I was hoping to read that our Bill Fowler had been awarded an honorary degree. On the other hand, I quote from the May 25 issue: "At the Fullerton campus of California State University fewer than half of the student body could identify Chaucer or Dante. At Dartmouth 43 percent of those polled hadn't an inkling of where Moses received the 10 Commandments."

The class of 1921 keeps up a fast pace as evidenced by a letter of May 25 to Don Sawyer from Ron Boss '60, Chairman of the 1987 Campaign: "Dear Don, Congratulations. Your class has surpassed its Alumni fund goal of $36,000 for 1987. Through your hard work and dedication you have greatly contributed to the 1987 Alumni Fund goals of $12,000,000 and 68 percent participation. Again, congratulations for a job well done."

Some years after Professor John Hurd lost his first wife, Eleanor Frost, he married Evelyn Hansen, who had been a member of the reference department of Baker Library for 20 years. After Jack's death in 1978 Evelyn continued to be interested in the affairs of his class. She attended 1921 class meetings and accepted the task of assigning Memorial Books. After a courageous fight against cancer she died on May 25 at the Mary Hitchcock Memorial Hospital. We who knew her shall miss her very much.
