Victor Welch wrote on a green card, "I was glad to see the picture of Werner Janssen in the last issue of the Smoker. It brought back memories of the days of the Freshman Jazz Band led by Werner. I was drummer in that band and we really got around. We played homecoming events at nearby villages, and even played for parties at Smith College. Also, we were paid.

"The last time I saw Werner he was at New York's Carnegie Hall, where he directed the orchestra in a Sibelius program. Backstage he was surrounded by adoring dowagers, just as he was by gals of earlier days in Hanover when he played his song hit 'Dancing Honeymoon.'"
