Several millennia ago good old Amos Tuck realized that Dartmouth would require at least a few wealthy alums in order to finance its growth. Poets can bring glory to Dartmouth, and a few Nobel laureate chemists don't hurt either, but millionaires build endowments. So that the College would be assured of having at least a handful of affluent alums, Amos founded America's very first business school. Over the years many Dartmouth graduates have walked the short distance down Tuck Mall in order to get an education which will assure prosperity for themselves and, the College figures, a healthy stream of tax deductible donations. Amos's scheme has worked well. Realizing that the $40 and $50 contributions typical of '86s wouldn't get it far, the directors of the Alumni Fund saw to it that a few '86s were admitted into Tuck. Monica Claman, JonPaul, Melissa Baten, John Punkett, TrisCollins, Virginia Rhoads, and Sam Kinney are all enjoying the good life in Hanover. Surely a Rhoads Hall, Baten Science Center, or Collins Drama Theater will eventually crop up in Hanover.
