Go West Young Man. Our Ralph Pendleton heard but didn't heed until 1980 when he and Greta moved from New England to Colorado. Several months later Ralph could not give his wife adequate care and so she went to a nursing home where she died in May 1984 from Alzheimer's disease. As Ralph was recovering from that bad shock he wrote to me, "I love this country up in the Rockies, especially the northeast corner of the state. The winters are milder, the scenery fabulous all year. So I'll probably stay."

Recently he wrote that he had a cataract removed from his left eye with good results and that he is living alone with his redheaded parrot at 444 E. 4th Street, Loveland, CO 80537.

My daughter, Cynthia, now living in St. Lambert, P.Q., Canada, had a bad cold and didn't feel like cooking a Christmas dinner. She suggested that lan visit his grandparents for Christmas. Since the idea seemed good to lan he phoned me at about 11:15 a.m. December 24. I told him that Esther and I would be very glad to have him come. Really, I was surprised when he arrived only six hours later thanks to Delta Airlines.

As to holidays, turkey was quite a luxury for Thanksgiving 60 years ago. Young turkeys died from pneumonia if they got their feet wet. Nowadays, they are raised on wires off the ground, resulting in a larger supply and lower retail prices.

Lamb chops would be more affordable if a smart scientist could produce a lamb pill to make raw lamb flesh distasteful to wolves and hungry dogs.
