As usual, the bad news first. Unfortunately we've had word recently of five deaths. Earl Nicholas Matchett died on February 12 in Seattle of Parkinson's. Edwin High "Eddie" Griffin died on March 17 in Barrington, R.I., after a period of ill health. Rosanne, his widow, is now living with their son Edwin Jr. in Barrington. Robert Nathan Millett Jr. died on March 31 in Chatham, Mass., after a long illness. And on May 10 Oliver Alfred Westfall died in Bronxville, N.Y., of a stroke and pneumonia, and Barrett Lyons died in East Lansing, Mich.
Our internationally known wine connoisseur, Bob Misch, hit the press with his entertainment at the Overseas Press Club's annual wine tasting. Raconteur Misch, after introducing his wife, Janet, as "a dish of Misch," held forth on Australian wines as the latest noise on the wine horizon.
Lee Burgess, sojourning in Bradenton, Fla., from his usual home in Farmington, Conn., reports he is in fairly good health playing golf at least once a week, attending Kiwanis, and generally enjoying life. He has been retired for several years from his job at Aetna where he supervised computer work on premiums.
Al Buchanan, reporting in from his new address c/o Jeffrey D. Buchanan (son), 14 Croton Lake Dr., Katonah, N.Y. 10536 notes among his activities after 36 years with U.S. Rubber Co., two years as assessor for the City of Peekskill, N.Y., a year as fund raiser for the local hospital, and ten years as director of defense for Peekskill. He also, with justifiable pride, tells of his eight children, all college graduates, three of the boys also holding doctorates in literature, mathematics, and law, respectively. He also lays claim to 21 grandchildren, three in high school, all the rest, except one, are college graduates. He is still awaiting his first great grandchild.
Thought for the month: They say a signature reveals a lot about a man's character, and sometimes about his name.
