Usually, I try to start this column with some eyecatching rubric or a libelous barb aimed at someone I don't really know. So we'll get right tQ work with the announcement that Anni Dupre has seized the moment and announced that she is now our Class Prez. "Why should I wait for the ballots to be counted," says Anni! "Mexico is my precedent." We must all make sure to follow Annie's political orientation during the ensuing five years.

Remember Derek Bronk, who years ago appeared in these class notes as a harmless swabbie in the U.S. "Navy? Now Seaman Bronk has completed his tour of duty with the navy, but not before earning some remarkable and frightening responsibilities. Derek was navigator on the USS Bagley (he got to steer the boat) and tactical action officer (he could shoot things if he desired). These facts become somewhat more interesting when one realizes that Mr. Bronk was stationed in the Persian Gulf during some very troubling times.

Lynn Curtis has emerged after five years to announce that she has got her M.F.A. at the University of lowa (love those Hawkeyes!) and will be teaching art this fall at Brown. Lynn, we hardly knew ye. From Florida, J.B. McKoy checks in to report that he and Carrie have bought a house large enough to hold not one, but two little chuggers. Son #2, Christopher Ryan McKoy, was born in excellent health last February. J.B. now works at Memorex-Telex. On the left Coast, we need to catch up with Libby Schmeltzer, the proud owner of a master in film production from USC, producer of a short film being aired on HBO and Cinemax, and "unofficially" scheduled to tie the knot with Walt Disney film editor Rick Hinson. I guess it becomes more official at some point ...

Lorren Pratt disturbs me with his missive about our reunion. "I won't make itI don't think anyone I know will be there." Hey, that's statistically astounding, given our attendance records, and much too negative. It is, after all, a small school. At any rate, Lorren's all done with a master's in comp. sci. from Rutgers and shooting for a Ph.D. Here's some real news: Kevin Schulman is working. Yes! Dr. K is a resident in internal medicine at Perm, gaining momentum by the hour after securing his M.B.A. from Wharton. And, Alan Bradford can now be tracked down in Tucson, Ariz., working for a groundwater consulting firm. Given the drought this summer, Alan's move appears particularly timely.

Lisa Tromovitch "is in love and happy" in Dallas, of all places, and manages the Morning Star Theatre Company. Lisa also is good at making excuses for not attending the reunion, but that's not important now. I have a lot of details about Craig Avril, who in short order graduated from Harvard B-School, nailed down a job with Boston Consulting Group in Chicago, married Lisa Lux '84, missed reunion, and then wrote all of this in a note. Craig, slow down and start watching more TV. Bruce Danziger made a key career move, exiting Manhattan and heading upstate to Watertown, N.Y. The ineluctable question: "To do what?" and well you might ask. But Bruce, much to his credit, does have plans. He and Jeff Shapiro have bought a radio station in town and run it together. Meanwhile, out in rapturous Beverly Hills, Davies Beller of Drexel Burnnam Lambert watches the Danziger/Shapiro duo with great interest, contemplating various ways of luring them into the subterranean world of junk-bond financing.

Stand up and shout for Jim Nadeau who celebrated his ordination in Caribou, Maine, back in July. And, it is not too early to make plans for Harvard weekend in Hanover next month. Hope to see you there.

In closing, I have the unhappy task of informing you that Bill DeGennaro died in a tragic swimming accident over the July 4th weekend. It is a terrible loss to our class because Bill touched many of our lives. Please remember. "Rio" and his family in your prayers.
