'85 lost another member by the death of Alton E. Briggs on February 27, 1951. There are now five living graduates, Adams, Allen,Austin, Brooks and Parker, and one non-graduate, Joseph W. Shultz, who was with us freshman year only and now lives in Topeka, Kansas. Briggs will be remembered by his college friends for his brilliant scholarship, his more than average ability as a pianist, his loyal attendance at all class reunions, and by the citizens of his adopted home of Chelsea, Mass. for his long tenure as head master of the High School and for his outstanding service during the rebuilding of a large section of the city following the disastrous fire several years ago. He has been president of the Class since 1945.
The secretary was surprised and greatly pleased to receive a call by Dr. Warren Adams whom he had not seen since our graduation in June, 1885. Since his retirement from active practice several years ago he has continued to live in New York City winters and at Little Boars Head, N. H., summers. Always a consid- erable traveller he was on a leisurely trip north from Miami accompanied by a chauffeur and golf dubs."Unlike Brooks, who does his golfing on the putting green exclusively, Adams plays the full 18 holes. Modesty prevented him from speaking of his average score.
