The class of 1943 has been spared a report on our ten grandchildren by a last minute letter by H. Brereton Hall, better known as Bud. He wrote about our participation in the 1989 Alumni Fund drive.

Bud, who is our head agent, sent a comErehensive report, which is both good and ad and leaves room for improvement. We raised $167,000 against a goal of $125,000, which makes us the leader in classes 194045. This was a new Dartmouth record for any class a year out from reunion.

That's the good news. Our participation was 66.6 percent against an alumni average of 61 percent. However, the class of' 42 had 87 percent participation, which gave them the Green Derby in spite of our larger dollar amount.

This means our problem is participation. I am sure classmates who read this column are not at fault. But perhaps you can help persuade the non-participants to forget their gripes about the College. Their complaints might include that their younger brother was not accepted at the Big D, or, worse, their favorite grandson or granddaughter was not accepted, or they didn't like the Professor Cole incident, etc., etc. Dartmouth is still your College and deserves your financial support. Include with your check comments and suggestions as to how the College could be improved. Let's win that Green Derby in 1990!

I regret to report the death of HarryGerber on June 13 from lung cancer at his home in Belmont, Calif. I also regret to report the death of Ralph Trovillion in June of 1989 from cancer at his home in St. Louis, Mo.
