We're having a mini-reunion on October 13-15. There's still time for you to decide to come to Hanover for the reunion and the Yale game. Key elements, beside the Torchlight Parade on Dartmouth Night, are a class meeting; a pre-game joint cookout with '59 and '60, the other 30th Reunion classes, on the patio of the Fayerweather Dorm Cluster Social Center at 11:30 a.m.; a '61 cocktail party at 6:30 p.m. at the Tom Dent Cabin; and a steak and chicken barbecue dinner at Tom Dent at 8:00 p.m. Call mini-reunion chair Dave Prewitt at 215/751-0500 if you have questions. Mark your calendars now for our 30th Reunion, which is June 11-14, 1990. Note that this reunion is during the week, rather than on the weekend. Preliminary schedules are being distributed through Wide Wide World, but key events include a Storrs Pond picnic with '59 and '60 featuring a country music band on June 12, a joint cocktail party and a joint dance on the same date, a rock 'n' roll dance for our class on June 13, and panel discussions on changing careers at age 50 on both June 12 and 13. A number of College-sponsored events also are scheduled.
Oscar Arslanian held a midsummer Sunday afternoon mini-reunion at his Hollywood Hills, Calif., home, attended by seven classmates and their wives. Those attending included Bill Horton, Fritz Kern, DougHopton, Bill "Fats" Miller, Phil Oehler,Duane Cox, and John Hadley. "I can report to you that all in attendance were nappy, healthy, and in great spirits," Oscar said. He laid on an Armenian feast, and marveled at how well the whole thing went. "It was a ball." All agreed to repeat the minireunion soon, with perhaps even more '61s attending.
That reunion offers a chance to update you on some West Coast classmates. Oscar said Duane, who lives about two blocks away from him, is doing well as a minister in the Church of Religious Science. He and Dee have been at the Seal Beach church for about two years.
Phil has married within the past two years. John is in real estate development and design in the Pacific Palisades and also is recently married.
Fats Miller called from his car to praise Oscar's party and to talk about how everyone there "turned their Dartmouth experience into a successful life." Miller reported that he is now Los Angeles advertising manager for U.S. News and World Report, producing about $15 million a year in business for the magazine, all national. He switched to the magazine after 20 years in the aerospace business as director of advertising for Northrop and Lockheed.
He still lives six miles from where he grew up, and is married to his Green Key sweetheart, Judy. Their children, Barron 20, and Cassie 18, are students at Pepperdine University. He stays active, playing tennis, body surfing, the whole gamut of California activities. "And I have skin cancer removed every fall."
Oscar himself is involved in a Woodstock revival concert and a whole series of Hollywood promotions. He still represents Fabian, and is deeply in the whole Hollywood scene. Oscar hasn't missed a reunion and promises to be at our 30th in June. And I'm sure that reunion co-chairs Dave Prewitt and Ron Wybranowski will be glad to hear that the class emcee will be there.
