The Fred A. Howland award for the outstanding head agent in the 40-60 years-out category was awarded to you guessed it our own Ed Flanders. Ed's untiring efforts, with your magnificent response, paid off handsomely. It is pleasant to see that virtue does, actually, sometimes, get rewarded.
Word has been received that Mutt Jennings's wife, Bunty, died October 6 after a long, losing battle with emphysema. Mutt is gradually readjusting to this devastating event and, as this is written, decided to accompany the Friends of the Boston Symphony on their tour of Europe in December. He also has a reservation on a Royal Viking Cruise ship to tour from Australia to Hong Kong, via ports, in the spring.
As you know, the fall mini was cancelled because too few could attend. Some question whether we should continue having a fall reunion. We cannot expect the Norwich Inn to hold the usual 20 reservations for us unless we can be relied upon to fill them. This is by no means too early a date to address the matter. It seems imperative to get an indication of intent, at least, without delay. So, if all of you who would like to see the fall reunion" continued particularly those who would need reservations at the Inn will drop a note to this effect to me, or to Curly Prosser, as soon as you have read this, it will not only be amazing and unprecedented, but also very helpful. The Inn, naturally, requires a commitment early in the spring as other classes would jump at the chance of taking it over. Discontinuing the mini would seem a little sad. It has always been a delightful opportunity to renew ola friendships in a colorful setting. It also has had much to do with maintaining class cohesion. We are only in our early eighties, so it can't be age. Maybe the response will be overwhelmingly positive. Let's hope so.
