Mail from Hanover is frequent and varied, but the reprint of "Growing up Green: A Kaleidoscope of Heroes" from the November 1988 Library Bulletin written by Philip E. Booth '47, son of Professor Edmund Booth, provided a delightful and nostalgic reminiscence of the 1937—38 era in Hanover. Booth describes the Hanover scene through the eyes of a Hanover urchin, a faculty son, who remembers the heroes of Dartmouth of his and our day. Among the heroes are Warren Crumbine, "who broke track for me the first time I skied to Balch Hill." He tells of the fleshand-blood "heroes, big and smelly in their uniforms: Mutt Ray, and Latta McGray and the speed-skating oval for the longbladed guys like Hal Putnam.

Last month we listed six children and grandchildren of our class attending Dartmouth. The Mint Bag tells us that a granddaughter of Bill Timbers is a freshman at Dartmouth. Bill is recuperating from heart surgery in December and we hope by this time you are able to walk your beloved elkhounds.

Please tell us if there are any other children or grandchildren of 1937 attending Dartmouth now.

Fred Bunce wrote Dana and Lem that Millie is now confined to the Clipper Homes in Portsmouth, N.H., an intermediate-care facility. The costs are high, with no help from catastrophic medicare, but nevertheless he sent his contribution to the Alumni Fund.

Tour director Ben Doran has 36 classmates in the fold for the Danube trip in October with several other couples considering the trip. The capacity of the Russe is about 160. Joining us will be alumni from the University of Michigan and the University of Southern California.

Newsletter co-editor Bill Rotch and Patty survived a week of floating and paddling on the Usumacinta River in Mexico among the ruins of Palenque, "the Mayan Athens." We would like to hear more about the expedition at our mini-reunion on September 5-16 in Hanover, the weekend of the Dartmouth-Princeton game. LanseMoore, Tom Nast, and Mac Mackenzie have sent in their entries and handicaps for the '37 golf championship at Eastman on September 15. Bring your golf clubs to the mini and enjoy one of the great courses in New Hampshire. If you don't believe that statement, ask Jud Smith.
