As it is that time of year again, our award-winning head agent, Ed Flanders, has called his assistant Alumni Fund agents to action. Lawson "Van"van Riper has agreed to become assistant head agent replacing Doc Simonds who is our new class treasurer. Van is sure to remain his kindly, good-natured self as long as you give till it hurts. Due to the usual attrition the list of givers gets shorter each year so those of us who are amazed and gratified to find ourselves still around should express it by kicking in a little more, thereby making up any shortfall. Ed suggests we make a special additional token gift in memory of Craig Haines,' our treasurer for decades past. The response to a similar request in memory of Os Skinner was very gratifying.

Those of you who have contributed to the class scholarship fund should be pleased to know that the ones chosen have been giving a superb account of themselves. Anita Hamilton '89 graduated cum laude and the five undergraduates are making top grades and are participating in many activities. A progress report to Curly Prosser from Linda Cole, assistant director of the Office of Financial Aid gives details of their accomplishments and a list of good prospects for a selection of two from the freshmen class to be the new Class of 1928 Scholars within the next two years.

A note from John Nixon on another subject mentioned that he and Ethel were passing up Florida this past winter and were taking a Caribbean cruise in April instead. By now they no doubt are home again, poorer but happier, and probably heavier. What have the rest of you been doing besides shoveling snow, skijoring, and riding your motorcycles? One might think that having reached the mid-eighties we were slowing down.

Ridiculous.

More likely you are too busy to write. Better report before the price of postage goes up again.

We regret to report the deaths of EdSawyer on February 4 and Jack Zanger on September 19, 1989.
