There are only two months until reunion and you have all seen the '45 Mail-Call which lists the names of most of those signed up. For the record, the Leggats will be there and we hope that many of you will add your names to the list. The '45, '46, and '47 committees are working hard to make a most memorable occasion.
A long lost friend, John Loper, wrote to correct his address in the reunion directory. The proper one is 28 Sleepy Hollow Lane, Orinda, CA 94563 .John reports that his contacts with classmates are few because he left after freshman year, but he enjoys the Class Notes and the Alumni Magazine. He is still practicing law in Oakland and his son Bruce '72 is a member of the firm.
Oldsmobile is featuring Jack Hemingway in a lot of its recent advertising. It is good to realize General Motors needs and uses help from a Dartmouth '45.
Steve Hull says that after many years he has moved his office away from Harvard Street. Among other things, he and Jean are involved in a church counseling project for parish members with varyious problems (including aging). I suggested to him that we should all have the outlook of a client of mine who will be 102 in June, who won an essay contest at age 99, and who recently told me that she was resubscribing to a newspaper to keep up with current events.
For the rest of these notes I am very grateful to Frank Aldrich who keeps in contact with many classmates through correspondence and visits. He had a recent talk with Murray Sams in his Florida office, and he reports that Murray has all the verve and bounce which have taken him to the top of his profession (legal). Perhaps the fact that his children range in age from 2 1/2 years to 45 keeps him young and active.
Fred Campbell is as active as Frank or Murray. In addition to teaching history at the University of Colorado, he serves as general counsel for a small mortgage company, president of the Rocky Mountain Nature Association, and vice president of Rocky Mountain National Parks Associates.
John and Martha Holdridge's children gave them a "beautiful surprise party" for their 40th anniversay, with guests from many parts of the U.S.A. and Scotland. They later went to the Isle of Skye, while John also spent time in Beijing and in North Korea. He continues to encourage Americans to consider opportunities to do business in Indonesia.
From Bob and Kitty Cate comes the news that Bob, with help from a "user friendly mathematician," has found the solution for a color normalization process that he has been working on for 14 years. It is the culmination of his biggest technical effort and eventually will improve TV viewing. The Cates play a lot of tennis, and Bob has also gathered a list of 100 birds along the Coast Boulevard where they live.
Think reunion, but above all pray for lasting peace.
