We always enjoy hearing from classmates, and recently we had a nice letter from Dr. BobFairchild bringing us up to date on his life and several enclosures on the death of Dr. Gordon"Budge" Smith. Bob goes on to tell of how he, Dr. Al Bellerose and Budge all graduated from Rudand (Vt.) High School in June 1925, and all three were admitted that fall to Dartmouth. They all went on to become M.D.s. Bob from University of Chicago '33 with an M.S. from University of Minnesota '38. A1 from Cornell Medical College '33, and Budge from the University of Vermont College of Medicine '32. Bob settled in Syracuse, N.Y., while both Al, who died in '65, and Budge practiced in their hometown of Rutland. Bob and Budge retired in the late '80s. Bob and his wife moved to a retirement home in Jamesville, a suburb of Syracuse, in 1989, where they are still living. He, independently in their small apartment, while his wife is in the total-care unit. His address there is: 1301 Nottingham Road, B-105, Jamesville, NY 13078-8705.

Al Bellerose's name reminded me of something told me years ago. Those of you who knew Larry Lougee well, were acquainted with his sense of humor. This story involved Larry's friend Dr. A1, one winter in the late '30s, when a friend and Larry had spent a weekend skiing near Rutland. Sunday, late afternoon, satisfied with their runs and in a playful mood, they decided to call on Dr. Al, the friend with a heavily bandaged leg and struggling in on crutches (always in the car if needed). Al undid all the bandages and, of course, found nothing was wrong. He did not think it was funny! As I recall, they were not invited to stay for tea and cookies!

From Alumni Records we have learned of the death of three '29 widows: Mrs. Carlos S. Countryman, Mrs. Henry J. Stein and Mrs. Frank T. Williams. Our condolences to the families of Budge Smith and these three widows.

Hanover had a thick blanket of snow for Winter Carnival this year and Dartmouth managed third place in stiff competition in the skiing events.

Rip adds: With all our fears in recent years Of so-called global warming, A further look at facts appears To say new fears are forming Do all our pols do this for sport? I wonder who they're fooling, For now their latest charts support A trend toward Arctic cooling!
