The 45th Reunion started two days early for two proud parents watching John E. Leggat, Jr. '83 ("Tod") graduate from Dartmouth Medical School with honors and receive a Distinctive Student prize as well. On Monday we moved from the Sheraton in Lebanon to the spartan quarters of Gile Hall for a happy meeting with about 125 classmates plus spouses. Bob Paulson,Steve Hull, Ted Smith, Vic Smith, KenSutton, and spouses Marge, Pat, Vesta, and Nancy ran a very efficient operation to get everyone enrolled and pictures taken. The keg was flowing early and often as friendships were quickly renewed.

After happy hour at the tent, dinner for 1945, 1946 and 1947 was served at the Thompson Arena followed by a great concert by those members of the classes who sang in the glee club in the middle to late '40s. HarryHampton recruited the group and and Bob Paulson directed. After dinner the same group performed with the present Glee Club. The songs and the words were the same that we sang as students.

At the class meeting Steve Hull was elected president, Vic Smith, vice president, and Charles "Moose" Rowan, secretary. Holdovers are John Osborn, treasurer, JohnWhite, bequest chairman and George Barr, newsletter editor. Clifif Jordan is the 1945 representative on the Alumni Council.

Our class owes a tremendous debt of gratitude to Cliff and Betty for their service to the class during the past six years and before. With Betty's help Cliff has been actively involved in every class activity since 1985 mini-reunions, class officers meetings, fund raising, reunion, and whatever other activities are called for. He has been a wonderful leader, and his enthusiasm and ability should be a guide for future presidents.

The Alumni Fund representatives, Vic Smith and Frank Hutchins also achieved spectacular results: e.g. $312,000 raised on a goal of $250,000. Both of them traversed the East Coast, and their time-consuming efforts are reflected in the results. They have raised expectations for the 50th Reunion four years away.

The Tuesday clambake and auction at Storrs Pond were most successful despite heavy rain showers, and the Wednesday class dinner at Berry Sports Center was as well-organized as the rest of the reunion. 1945 Man of the Year Awards were made to Barry Oldfield and the retiring secretary. Paul Newman was a humorous and interesting master of ceremonies. The formal festivities concluded at a joint dance with '46 and '47 on Tuck Mall, and a quick breakfast at the tent on Thursday ended with handshakes, promises to return in 1995, and departure to many locations.

This is my final column. Coupled with a stint as sports editor of the DAM in the forties, it ends two periods of great pleasure. Thanks to all of you who provided news for columns, especially Frank Aldrich and George Barr; please write Moose Rowan about activities. There were a number of first-time reuners in Hanover this time. If you and the others who were there tell your classmates via the '45 notes, the newsletter, or directly about the great reunion, we should have a wonderful turnout for the 50th in 1995.

Health and happiness to all.
