Over the past few years this column has been concocted in at least three of the four corners of the world - New Hampshire, the Far East, the Mediterranean and Caribbean Seas. But in nearly nine years the report was never put together in a hospital room, so it is as the result of infectious hepatitis (there's a fancy sounding sort of ailment for you!) that we now present a few words from the sanctum of the pan handlers.

By the time this reaches you, incidentally, we'll hope to be sufficiently cured to return as a member of the laboring classes. If you must write commiserations, please be sure to include some news such as we find in this month's...

DIAPER DIGEST

Bill and Ruth Freniel had their third daughter last June 19. This charmer is Melissa Lee, an eight pound seven ounce lassie whose sisters are Deborah Anne, six, and Pamela Ruth, who will be four on Independence Day. Bill has been manager of the Minneapolis Terminal Warehouse Co. since last year and sent several items of interest concerning Minnesotans. For example, he reports that Arnie and Jessie Bockstruck have two children, Betsy, four, and Robbie, born last year. Sorry to hear Arnie pulled this hospital routine in January "leaving behind a perfectly good appendix and some nasty kidney stones." Also in the Twin Cities, says Bill, are Curt Dunnavan "hawking securities for Smith, Barney & Co.," and Walt Schuette with Swift & Co.

Jim and Peggy Vail have a third son born last fourth of July. The latest answers to Andrew C. and has brothers Jimmie, five, and Foster, three. Operating out of Columbus, Ohio, Jim is field representative for American Hospital Supply Corp., selling "everything to the hospitals except xray, kitchen and laundry equipment, and the patients and nurses."

Sandy and Dorothy McCulloch now have a very fine poker hand, kings full to queens. This was accomplished December 13 when Sandra Carol joined sister Stacey Anne, now three, and a trio of male offspring, William Carl who will be eight in June, James who's turning seven, and Neil R. going on six. Sandy is treasurer and general manager of Rayon Processing Co. in Providence and very active in many aspects of Rhode Island alumni work.

Gene and Patricia Carver had an "income tax special" on December 29. The eight-pound girl is Joan Elizabeth, born in San Francisco where Gene is an appraiser for Western Mortgage Corp., a loan correspondent of Metropolitan Life. The other girls in the house are Mary Katherine, born July 23, 1955, in Bellingham, Wash., and Sara Elaine, a San Fran, arrival on May 26, 1957.

Also increasing the female population of the Class without off-setting gentlemanly progeny are Ben and Bets Johnson in Bridgton, Me. Their latest lass is Pamela Randi, who weighed in at eight pounds, one ounce, three minutes after noon on January 28. Says Ben, "Some people want a baseball team - we're delighted with a harem."

Larry and Elenor Smith have a daughter as their first child. Born February 6, Elizabeth Carter scaled eight pounds, three ounces. Larry is secretary of Laurence R. Smith Inc., a building specialties firm in West Hartford.

Our newly appointed Class Agent, John F. Swenson, says Helen and new daughter Anne Ward are doing well since their hasty trip to the Evanston Hospital February 7. Anne was a six pound ten ounce baby, and has a brother, William McKenzie born January 9, 1957. After getting a J.D. law degree from Northwestern in 1953, "Swede" spent five years with MacLeish, Spray, Price and Underwood, a Windy City law firm. For the past year he's been a staff attorney for Commonwealth Edison Company.

INKADENTAL INTELLIGENTZ

The first of this month Larry Perry left Schenectady and headed for the wide open spaces to set up medical practice in Laramie, Wyo.

Walt Lindenthal, head of the sporting goods department for Bamberger's Department Store in Newark, N. J., and Ken Edelson of General Sportscraft Co. in New York met in Chicago at the sporting goods show in late January. "Thai" says Dick Echikson was headed for Europe in February to purchase fabrics for Macy's and not too unhappy with the large haul made by Lee on a New York TV program.

Tom Ruggles has been quite active in a lot of different areas. After a stint with the Army during Korea, Tom went to work with United Display Corp. in Boston selling window and interior point-of-purchase displays. He and Janet have three daughters, Rebecca born April 23, 1953, Mary Ann who arrived May 13, 1955. and Dorothy born November 26,1957. Tom master-minded arrangements for a Dartmouth Glee Club concert sponsored by the North Shore Club in February and, in addition to getting publicity, tickets, and accommodations for the horde, organized the "Original Dartmouth Dukes of Dixieland" to play at the open house held after the show. As if this weren't enough, Tom's barbershop quartet competed in the SPEBSQSA "World Series" in 1956. Enthusiasm has swelled to the point that a Marblehead Chapter has been formed.

How he managed to find time to write, we don't know, but we're happy to learn from Tom that at a recent Boston D-dinner he saw Fizz Nichols and his wife (Old Colony Trust Co. investments man), lawyers BobKilmarx and the Dan Featherstons (all residents of Cohasset), and Sherm and SueClough who have just purchased a home in Needham. Encountered elsewhere in the Boston area were National Shawmut's Phil See who has moved to Marblehead and the BobWilsons, already residents there so as to be handy to the job of radiologist in nearby Salem Hospital. Al and Viv Harquail are frequently seen since Al's in the Oral Surgery Department of the Boston City Hospital. Tom, thanks a lot for all the information!

John Wolf and Barbara have been in Maryland for several years since he went to work with the Baltimore Paper Box Co., Inc. John is now national accounts manager. Youngsters are John J. IV, born June 11, 1951, and Susan Diane, May 21, 1953.

"Very staid life" claims Fred Gamble from Minneapolis. (So why should you be different?) Fred is a registered representative of Piper, Jaffray & Hopwood in the stocks and bonds biz. He and Carol have a daughter, Elizabeth, four, and a son, Bill, two-and-a-half years old. They report that Arnie Oss is being transferred from Clouquet to Minneapolis with Northwest Paper Co. and that Dixie Vaughn has been made an assistant veep at the Northwestern National Bank. Tom Warner's recent extracurricular activities included coaching the Brech High School hockey team.

Dave Bull and Mary Lou have just fulfilled their desire to return to San Francisco. Dave is now an associate in the general legal practice of Severson, Davis & Larson there. For the previous three years he'd been with Wilson & Mcllvaine in Chicago. Two calves and a heifer can be counted in the Bull's coral, Michael who is five, James now three, and Susan who will be two next July 19.

Clift Whiteman reveals that Ken Clark was sent to New York in February as representative of the Memphis law firm for whom he works, McCloy, Myar, and Wellforn if we interpret correctly. Clift and Herb Ray took a tour of Inland Steel's Indiana Harbor Works with assistant to the treasurer Jim Stevens. Clift has been a v.p. of Guaranty Trust since April 8, 1958, and "Hot Boy" Herb was made an assistant cashier at Chicago's First National Bank January 1 this year.

Dick Catron is prexy of his own company in Englewood, Colo., American Silicone Co. The products with names like "Once!" and "Off" are silicone polishes and cleaners. Dick says they are wonderful and you should try 'em.

Tom O'Connell reports no 50's in sight in Quito, Ecuador, but he and Annie have a nice house and a golf course very handy. He is enjoying his job as a public administration expert with the U.N. but hopes to make Hanover for our tenth reunion. How about you?

That's about it for now. Next month we hope to have a report on the Class Dinner held in New York in March. Maybe some of the rest of you will have some news to add as well.

See ya around the May pole!
