Hanover was all dressed up in her fall finery of orange, yellow, red, and especially green as alumni the country over arrived for Dartmouth Night, Friday, October 15. The traditional alumni parade to the Green wended its way through the throngs of students thirsty for their first football victory of 1982. Marching with the '55s were Harry Ambrose, John French, Dick and Fanny Lou Forsberg, Dick Targett, Ken and Jeanne Harvey, Kilt and Pru Andrew, Swift and Kit Lawrence, Dick and Ann Brown, Pete Sarty, Jim Nelsen, and Web and Rosemarie Wilde.
The bonfire, 86 railroad ties high, the crowd, and the length of the speeches set new records this year. Football coaches and captains accurately predicted that the Harvard football seniors would never know the thrill of victory over Dartmouth. Harvard scored first and last but not enough. Helping to stifle the Crimson was No. 72, Bob Dell Isola, defensive varsity tackle. You know his dad and grandfather. Saturday, a sprinkling of hail reminded the capacity crowd at Memorial Field that they were back in Hanover. Classmates spotted in the stands included Bob Hayes, Phil Reilly, Doug and Gerry Melville, Jud Hale, Ralph Sautter, Mike Gorton, Bob Bagdesarian, Pat and Ray Woolson, Bruce Alexander, Larry Hagar, Fred Darche, Bob and Iris Fanger, Dick and Kit Mount, Pete and Betty Fishbein, and Dave Winograd.
After-game receptions kept the weekend rolling before our class returned to the Sheraton in West Lebanon for dinner. Other classmates joining us there included John and Pat Dell Isola, Peter Dromeshauser and Mary Flanaghan, Woody and Nancy Goss, Norm and Joan Fine, Bernie and Pat Siskind, Leon and Mary Lee Martel, and local entrepreneur and politician Tom Byrne.
On Saturday morning the class executive committee held a very productive breakfast meeting at the Hanover Inn. The outing club, most appreciative of our class gifts of prior years, started by showing us a film featuring their Woodmen's Weekend, an event they'll host next year. It was voted to support this endeavor as well as to fulfill our commitment to supply another piece of equipment to the popular class of '55 Nautilus Room. A more detailed report of our meeting will appear in the class newsletter.
My notes of the weekend are sketchy and my memory is poor but I recall the following: Harry and Margie Ambrose visited Dublin last summer where Harry's brother was teaching at Trinity College. Pete Sarty received the Republican nomination for something in a newly created district somewhere. Leon Martel has left the Hudson Institute to think for himself. Don Charbonnier has rejoined Dean Whitter. They couldn't get along without him. Both Jim Nelsen and Dave Winograd were showing off the College to their two eligible sons Eric, a hockey player, and Jon, a swimmer.
Doug Melville mentioned that the Dartmouth weekend at William and Mary was super, with Frank Chase directing our class affairs.
I regret to announce the death of classmate Edward Buhlig of Beverley Hills, Calif. Our deepest sympathy has been extended to his two daughters, Ann and Lynn.
