Thank goodness for Lucy Harvey and Mimi Reilly's fine job in coordinating the March mini-reunions! Because of them and their regional helpers, I'm sitting at my desk flipping through a stack of cocktail napkins containing great dirt on fellow '85s.
The Chicago reunion was held at Eliot's Nest, a fine choice on Rich Stoddart's part. The Windy City regulars were there, and so were some visitors!
Annette Harris left her Baylor Medical School books and the 90-degree blue skies of Houston for a cold Chicago vacation. Annette spent last summer traveling and camping in the Southwest with RomaSharma. Annette says that med school is nothing compared to their adventures in the desert. Apparently she and Roma had a terrifying run-in with a javelina (a wild pig) after having drunk margaritas in their campground. I've heard that tequila is a hallucinogenic, but that's ridiculous! Annette reports that Roma will attend Columbia Medical School after summering in India.
What does Peter Blum know? Well, for one thing, he knows that there aren't any young Dartmouth people around Evansville, Ind. In fact, the Evansville Press reporter reports that there's not much of anything around Evansville! Peter is responsible for covering everything that happens in western Kentucky, which includes politics, environment, government, you name it. His paper has a circulation of 45,000, an "officially medium-sized paper."
I was impressed by Peter's talent - he knows what a lot of 'Bss are doing! Brian Langley, according to Peter, is studying physics at Stanford, getting a tan, and waiting for a government contract. Alison Frankel is working as an editor for Diversions, a travel magazine for physicians. Cricket Barlow's at UVA Law School. Dan Fagin is working as a reporter for a paper in Florida, and Jim Newton is a clerk to James Reston, Washington Bureau Chief of The New York Times. MarkSchulein is working in Vail - well, actually he's being a ski bum while waiting to hear from med school. Rumor has it that Jason Kaplan flew off to Vail for the winter too. He heard that David Story is working for a company that makes videos of people skiing and gets paid for doing it! Are you a star yet, Jason?
Gregg Gorman, a consultant at Arthur Andersen in Boston, is temporarily displaced in Chicago for nine months. In a recent excursion to Hanover Gregg saw the changes, the shanties, and KimBooker, who is going to Northeastern for accounting. Gregg says Laura Siegfried's working for Bain, while Sue Gillespie is with the Boston Company. Sue is keeping close ties with Concord - or, shall we say, John? Paul Adkins and ManusClancy are in New York City, working hard and sacrificing the old social life. David Weld and Bill Warden work for Arthur Andersen in Beantown.
Mimi Reilly and Peggy Engelhart came up for the mini-reunion and for a quick visit. Mimi reports that fellow P & G'er Chris Hessler bought a house in Cincinnati - wow! Chris is still using his entreprenurial skills, first tapped in his "Men of the Ivy League" calendar production.
Where's Matt Cocks? Mimi and Peggy run into Matt at the bars in the yuppie part of town. He's working at the First National Bank of Cincinnati and happily living with two girls. Matt went to the New York City reunion, which I hear was fantastic! How about sending a report on the party, New Yorkers?
Jim Kreitman had a great time at the party and sends snaps for Lucy Harvey. Jim's in the Manny Hanny training program with Jeff Howe, and all the rumors are true! Jim lives in Hoboken, what he considers to be "the River Cluster of NYC." He's keeping busy coaching youth basketball and working a couple of special real estate deals.
And now for some more exciting news. Just as some of us are finally thinking about getting a job, others are leaving theirs. Allison Shutz resigned her position at Morgan to pursue a field in art history. David Seidenberg has made several career changes thus far. Last summer he worked at the Dartmouth Child Care Center as an aide. Next, he was a Torah teacher at the Kehillath Israel Hebrew School in Brookline. Then David became assistant community relations associate for the Jewish Community Relations Council of Greater Boston. As if three job changes weren't enough, he finally became associate editor of Genesis 2, a progressive, feminist, Jewish magazine. On the side, David organized a 200-person rally against Meir Kahane under the banner "Jews Against Racism."
Bob Finn is pursuing an M.A. in the history of mobility at the Sorbonne. He should receive his degree by March 1987. Until then, he writes, all Dartmouth grads are welcome to visit!
Michael Viccora is teaching history to 10th and 11th graders at the Trinity-Pawling School. He's hung up his cleats for a whistle and is coaching JV football, basketball, and baseball. Michael Merrill is a stringer for The Middlesex News in Framingham, Mass., while applying to graduate journalism schools. He hopes to go to Northwestern. Paul Agostinelli and Claire McEchern are going to U. of Chicago for Ph.D.'s in English.
Hank Aldrich is living in Mainz, West Germany, and working for Nike International in the advertising department. On weekends Hank is a referee for the German Ice Hockey Federation. Once in a while he sees Tiger Shaw on TV, ski racing on the World Cup Circuit.
Once again, thanks to Lucy Harvey and Mimi Reilly, our superior mini-reunion coordinators! Looking forward to news from the East and West '85s!
