Don Myers sent along a note, a photograph, and a newspaper article to substantiate the victory of his yacht, Eleazar's Tavern, in the April 1991 British Virgin Islands regatta. Don has a right to be proud of this since it is his first victory in 24 years of trying, and he sailed against a field of over 20 competitors. The crew Don, his son James 'BB, and Jack Keniley also went into the last race of the weekend in the lead and proceeded to clinch the Class D championship. Keniley, who sails out of Annapolis, Md., has been going to the VI. regularly to sail. One has to wonder whether the sportswriter for the Virgin Islands Daily News does not spend a lot of time in Eleazar's Tavern, since half the article covering all the races was about Don, his crew, and his yacht. The picture was of Eleazar's Tavern and crew after a 1989 Saint Patrick's Day race. That time the yacht won what else the"Most Green" title.
From the Lake Sunapee region, via a newspaper clipping from Jay Anderson, comes word that John McCnllis was one of two people honored as Citizens of the Year by the Newport Chamber of Commerce. The citation stated that John "represents the best in purpose, competence, and reliability," and it mentioned his work with the local hospital, library, savings bank, and Episcopal Church. Perhaps of equal interest to classmates is that John was mentioned as having been instrumental in bringing the Lake Placid 30-meter ski jump to Newport.
International Executive Service Corps (a not-for-profit organization of American business men and women volunteering managerial services to developing countries) reported that Herbert Nubel has just returned from Cairo, Egypt, where he had been helping a cosmetics manufacturer set up a marketing department and train a marketing director. Before working with IESC Herbert had been marketing vice president of the international division of Sterling Drug.
Jack Arndt called the other day to check on the most recent address of a classmate and stayed on the phone long enough to bring his career up to date. Jack retired from Burlington Industries, Lees Carpets Division, and went back to school to get a master's degree in family therapy. However, he has found suburban Philadelphia civic affairs so fascinating that he is spending full time on that and has not made any use of his training.
