Don Boardman and Rick Davey have agreed to co-chair the class of '65 50th Birthday Celebration. They are building on the original groundwork laid by Ken McGruther in the past year. All of us will be hearing more about the plans, but you can start planning by saving die first few days in May 1993. If you can be near Washington, D.C., even better. Watch your mail.
I'm 50. It doesn't hurt at all. For those of you who will be turning the corner this month, happy birthday. For historical interest, here is a review of what was happening during December of 1942. On the light side, Frank Sinatra was rising to fame as the king of swoon. Popular songs included "White Christmas" and "You'd Be So Nice to Come Home To." On the darker side, World War II raged on as Hider, Stalin, Mussolini, and Franco continued to ruin Europe. The U.S.A. was building internment camps for persons of Japanese ancestry. Let's hope that we can help to avoid similar tragedies during the next 50 years.
I have received zero mail this month, so I have to resort to rumors. Someone reported that they saw the Reverend George Rutler on a Roman Catholic cable TV program. Is it true that Garry DeLoss was recently elected to political office in Spencer, Iowa? Was that Palmer Wooglin we heard as the "Phantom of the Opera" in Hanover last month? If you know the truth about any of these rumors, please write to us at the address below.
Dartmouth juniors who have a father from the class of '65 include the sons and daughters of Neil Grossman (Adam), Paul Pringle (Jennifer), Ted Bracken (Genevieve), DaleLaw (Dan), Hank Amon (Lindsay), HerbCarlson (Matt), George Wittreich (Geoff), Art Rainey (Doug), John Daily (Craig), JohnRogers (Ed), and Jim Frank (Jordan). Next month's Class Notes will bring us up to date on the sophomores. If you have a son or daughter who is growing in talent at another school, write to brag. For example, our daughter Kim is now a senior at the University of Massachusetts. She is planning on graduate school and looking forward to a career as a psychologist. Some day she may be able to help me.
Next, the December winners of the birthday lottery. If your name appears below, you are the winner of a special prize. All you have to do is answer your question in five or more words. Bill Boukalik, Gordon Megibow,Pliny Stebbins, and Ron Choy, what is the most interesting book you have read in the past two years? Bill Bourne, Rick Spears,Gary Parker, and John Hays, what are your favorite outdoor activities?
Everyone else, if one of the above names reminds you of your years at Dartmouth, pick up a pen and let us know what you are up to.
I hope that this letter finds you in good health and content with what 1992 has brought for you. May your second SO years be grand ones.
