Your copy of the November Alumni Magazine is in your hands as part of the class effort to keep everyone informed. Your class dues help to pay for this magazine and we trust that you are helping by paying this year. If you have not yet sent your payment to Steve Waterhouse, remind yourself. While you are writing the class a check, send me some information about yourself, your business, your family, or anything. My address is below for your convenience. I have zero information in my files, so I would appreciate hearing from you. If you need something to write about, consider the following questions selected for the classmates named: Dick Bordeau, TedVeasey, and Bill Van de Graaff, whom would you name as a "hero?" Mike Zare, CharlieSimpson, and Hugh Lade, for whom did you vote in this month's election? Wiry? ChickKozloff and Lee Curtis, what is the most exciting thing that has ever happened to you? Rick Bogel and Jim Hartmann, if you had it to do all over, would you pursue the career path you are on at this time? Mike McKenna and Ted Stafford, how does it feel to celebrate a 50th birthday? Anyone can send me an answer to any question so that I can celebrate my 50th birthday (November 21) with some information for the next Class Notes.
Would you prefer your son or daughter to attend Dartmouth? There are 48 students at Dartmouth this year who had a father in the class of '65. Those are the 14 seniors. In the next three Class Notes columns you will see the names of legacies from the other three classes.
What was going on 50 years ago as you entered onto the world stage? If you were born in November, that was the month of the Allied Invasion of North Africa, the fire at the Cocoanut Grove nightclub (493 people died), the Battle of Guadalcanal, and the death of George M. Cohen. "Bambi" and "Casablanca" were playing at movie theaters in 1942. Magnetic recording tape was invented, and scientists succeeded with the first controlled nuclear reaction. What a time to be born!
If your name is listed in this paragraph, you are the winner of the birthday lottery for this month. As the winner, you get to write to us and give your opinion of the most exciting memory of your first 50 years. Herb Carlson,JohnMearns, Rob Hartford, Bill Park, TimCockroft, Sandy Ritter, and Dick Voss, think about your life and send us a response. If you fail, we may resort to rumors. For example, there is a rumor that Don Boardman quit his job and sailed off to Bermuda, and he looks forward to brewing his own beer in his very own pub. True? Who knows?
Have a satisfying Thanksgiving. Be good to your friends as well as to strangers you meet.
