Greetings from Atlanta! Believe it or not, there's actually snow on the ground here, which makes me a little homesick for those "crisp" winters on the Hanover plain. But cold weather also keeps people home, which made it easier for me to track/all down. I found Gerry Widdicombe at home in Washington, D.C. Gerry has been working for the Resolution Trust Corporation (RTC). The good news is that he enjoys it; the bad news is that Congress just legislated his job out of existence! After ten years in finance (at Goldman Sachs and the RTC) Gerry sounds excited about exploring different job options.
Next I found Jackie Kaiko at home in Stamford, Conn. Jackie has distinguished herself by working for the same company, Chemical Bank, since graduation. This feat is particularly respected by five '78s who joined Chemical at the same time, including me, MarcFarley, Lissa Howell, Heather MayfieldKelly, and Mike Morgan. Jackie is the lone "survivor" of our group. Despite working for the same company, Jackie has kept things interesting by working in a range of jobs, from international to her current position as senior credit officer of middle market lending in the Tri-State (N.Y., N.J., Conn.) area. As if work were not enough to keep her busy, she and her husband are restoring a house. Jackie keeps up with Robin Barone, who is in the process of moving to Budapest with her husband and three children. The youngest was born in December.
I also had the good fortune to talk to RobCeplikas's wife, Lynn. Rob is back in Hanover after completing a one-year master's in education at Stanford. Rob, of course, had the foresight to go to California in time for the big earthquake in 1989. Lynn and Rob had to live with friends for a few days as authorities checked their eight-story apartment building after the quake. Rob is working in die College's athletic department as special assistant to the athletic director. He acts as liaison to the admissions office and also has fun draising responsibilities. He has also taken on fatherhood responsibilities, as he and Lynn had their first child, Holly, over Memorial Day weekend.
I also found Dr. Dave Dalury home in Baltimore. After working as a crew coach for two years after graduation, Dave attended Dartmouth Med School, graduating in 1984. After orthopedic internships and residency at some famous hospitals, Dave finds himself specializing in joint replacement at Johns Hopkins. Although Dave is pretty modest about his success, he gets my vote for the surgeon most qualified to fix knees. He has even done knee operations on TV (Lifetime network, for the non-squeamish among you). Dave spends about 60 percent of his time seeing patients and 40 percent teaching, and he likes the variety. His two kids (ages two and four) also keep him busy.
Robin Wildermuth has been running a Procter & Gamble pulp mill in Griffin, Ga., and he is in the process of moving to Pennsylvania to run another mill. P&G has moved Robin to several mills in his career, and he is looking forward to moving back to his home state. He is also anticipating the arrival of his third child in April.
Don't forget our reunion is scheduled for June 19-21, in Hanover. It looks like it's shaping up to be a great time, so y'all come!!!
