Tragic news to report this month. June Palumbo Meyer and her husband, Jim suffered the loss of their sixmonth-old daughter Hannah, who died of pneumonia last December 26. June writes,•"Hannah suffered from an unnamed and largely mysterious neurological disorder, the best known treatment for which, ironically, made her susceptible to the infection that took her life. The disorder, which afflicts only infants, can cause severe brain damage, but the exact mechanism of the disorder, the risk factors, and safe, effective treatments remain outside the grasp of medical science."
In hopes of preventing this from happening to another infant, June and Jim have established a non-profit research fond in their daughter's memory. If you would like to contribute, send a check to The Hannah Meyer Research Fund, c/o Dr. A. Chutorian, Division of Pediatric Neurology, The New York Hospital-Cornell Medical Center, 525 East 68th Street, Room N-117, New York, NY 10021. Rick and I profer our sincere condolences to June and Jim and urge you all to contribute.
Although it is admittedly difficult to find anything truly substantial to follow this sort of news, life (as they say) does go on ... so permit me to delve back into the typical flotsam of marriages and promotions . . .
