Mea Culpa, Mea Culpa for the unscheduled hiatus from you, our loyal readers. Actually, it was an experiment in procrastination- how far we could push our luck with our friends at the Alumni Mag. I mean how serious are they with those deadlines of theirs? As you've seen, pretty damn serious. Anyway, we're sorry. It won't happen again. Promise.
Of course, now I've got about three months of mail to catch up on, so let's get to it . . . Continuing our shameless promotion of the '85 musical group, Distant Cousins. Catherine "Cat" Dail sent us some of the band's recent notices and flyers. The group played The Tabard over Halloween weekend and was called "fan and funky" by The Dartmouth. Cat herself refers to the group as "Pretenders with a James Brown edge." Sounds pretty fun and funky to me. Distant Cousins' music is in rotation on WDCR and WFRD, and you can get their most recent album (uh, actually their only album) at Pennylane in Kansas City or at the Dartmouth Bookstore, or by writing to Cat at 12 Charles Street, N.Y.C., 10014.
And speaking of the performing arts, Carole Crelin is currently on a national tour of Cabaret and will be performing in Germany, Austria, and Switzerland through next April. Reviews have already started flooding in to the Alumni Mag. The Munich Sun Times called Carole's portrayal of Sally Bowels "fun und funky." The Vienna Free Press praised Carole's singing as "Like Liza's, only better!" Congrats, Carole.
Lee Anne Stoddart, wife of Rich Stoddart, sent in a letter and press release concerning her husband's recent promotion to vice president at Leo Burnett in Chicago. Rich has been with the ad agency since graduation and has moved steadily up the ranks to his current position. He lives in Arlington Heights with Lee, "a fellow Burnetter (if I may borrow that very frightening, Stepford-esque phrase from the company's wonderfully informative press release). Also, for those who were wondering, billings for Leo Burnett's U.S. and international operations reached a fan and funky $4.3 billion last year. Not bad, Rich. I'm sure you'll be getting a call from our helpful and friendly Alumni Fund representatives soon.
News of another "Dartmouth-etter" promotion, this one from the consulting firm Deloitte & Touche. They wrote us of the recent advancement of Mark Neibart to manager in the Management Consulting Department. Mark practices in the areas of business process re-engineering and systems development. Fun and funky? I think not. And please don't even think of coming up with a nickname for those fine workers at Deloitte & Touche.
New babies (in case we missed them in previous columns . . . what previous columns?) reported for Sally Schwartz Higginson (Charlotte Elizabeth) on August 27, and Susannah Gaylord (Alison Elizabeth). Finally, a letter from a supporter of EricKearney's recent campaign for City Council of Cincinatti asking us to get out the vote for Eric's campaign "in the October issue." Uh, sorry Eric. Hope you won. Hope your Holidays were happy.
