Lies and malicious gossip two things we studiously avoid ...unless, of course, we're in desperate need of material. This month, thankfully, is one of the more profligate ones. Or let's just say I'm not going to have to resort to rhyming names out of the 'shmen book (which, by the way, was a brilliant creation of something from nothing, if I may devolve into a mutual admiration society. Rick, you're beautiful, man . . . and I mean that).

Anyway, onward. The big news this months is of Pat Hoeg's wedding to Rick Kenneally last December. She was attended by a retinue of Kappa Alpha Theta women who report: "We are so proud. I mean, could we have had more fun?" Among those in attendance: Joanna Tsiantas, Amy Brout, Ellen Shapiro,Jenny Gabler, Michael Lehman, Sal Sorce,Henrietta Hung, Paul Perry, Ricki Frankel,Patty Milon, and Lisa Zaslow. Lisa, by the way, wrote us recently to let us know that she has become certified by the parks department as a "citizen pruner," and is now qualified to walk through the streets of New York with an eight-foot pole-saw and indiscriminantly cut limbs off Ginkgos, Callery Pears, Honey Locusts, and other street trees. Lisa writes, "Bizarre, I know. Must be something in the water." Walking through New York with an eight-foot pole-saw? Sounds pretty normal to me...

Following tie maxim that all good things come in threes, the birth of Sally SchwartzHigginson's daughterNessa on December 22 (eight pounds, 3.5 ounces, and yes, Sally had an epidural, thank you very much) will soon be followed by the birth of Sarah RahrFortna's child this in July, and a birth by AnneGoodwin (with husband Hampton) sometime in late fall. Of course, pushing prams together is going to be a bit tough since Sarah and her husband, Ben, are set to move to Istanbul for about a year while Ben goes for his Ph.D. in Middle Eastern studies. While in Turkey, Sarah, Ben, and young Fortna Jr. will be visited by honeymooning Noel Danforth and soon-to-be-husband (non-Dartmouth, wedding in September, we think in Boston). Sally also mentioned that she's teaching Episcopalian boys in D.C. to read Shakespeare.

Another wedding of repute is that of former class prez Sue Finnegan, who has planned an August 1 wedding in Hanover to Mark Vassu (she will, for obvious reasons, keep her own last name... we hope). In our usual thorough way we have also found out that Mark is a lawyer working for a judge in Boston we think.

SHORTTAKES. Expatriate Valerie Block is going for her M.A. in creative writing at Columbia and is about to be published in an Oregonian literary magazine. ValerieHartman is doing legal work for Ted Turner in Atlanta. Katie Leede has been seen acting in a number of Equity waiver shows in L.A. And finally, unsubstantiated non-denial from the Kappa Alpha Theta sisters that Henrietta Hung is set to marry Paul Perry. A June '93 wedding is planned (Sorry, Henri, I cannot divulge my source ... unless there's money in it for me, of course).

Stay well. I'll see you again in September.
