It's that time again—let's make sure we put our '59 Alumni Fund drive way over the top. Some past news, but still current, is the appointment of Dave Allen by President Freedman to the Board of Trustees' Public Affairs Advisory Committee, which will provide the president and the senior administration "with advice, and assist in the planning and implementation of Dartmouth s programs and efforts in the areas of communications strategy, media relations, publications, internal communication, and government and community relations." Wow! An impressive committee great recognition, major opportunities!! Congrats, Dave!

In a recent issue of Business Week we find a listing for the "Corporate Elite" CEO's of the 1,000 most valuable publicly held companies. Two of our brethren are listed. One is Lefty "Robert" Cline, who has been CEO of Airborne Freight, a $1.2 billion Seattlebased company, for seven years. He has been with it for 26 years, and he did his graduate work at Columbia and New York University. Also listed is Landon Rowland, CEO of Kansas City Southern Industries, who now resides in Kansas City and has done a commendable job with a $528 million sales company which has a $563 million market value. He has been CEO for five years and with the company for 12 years. He followed Dartmouth with a trip to Cambridge and received a Harvard law degree in 1962.

Bob Foot writes from Boynton Beach, Fla., where he is a special agent for Prudential, that he is batting .667 on seeing roommates from his junior year. He reports fishing with Dickand Polly Sameth near their Boca Raton retreat. Bob advises that Dick "is the better fisherman, perhaps well exercised on the Jersey shore in their new boat." Plus, Roy Jamison put up with Bob and Ginny and their lack of conditioning when he pushed them "to the top of Mt. Katahdin in Maine on Labor Day Sunday, while Carol provided nourishment before and liniment after at the Jamison's, based on Moosehead Lake." Bob is "now looking for the situation to visit with JohnBurkhardt."

In late November it was announced that Albert Wende has been promoted to president and CEO of Armor Box Corporation, a north Buffalo manufacturer of corrugated packaging.

On a closing note, as I watch the skiing competition at the Winter Olympics, I am beginning to formulate my next column which will detail the recendy completed, second annual '59er Alpine Championships at Sun Valley. Tune in to find out who were "wimps" and did not make the event. Then, for those who did, how did these superstars fare?

See you next month.
