Now that I am out of the rush and fury of law practice and involved in the academic world, I can actually eat dinner before eight and occasionally have the whole weekend off. Of course, you know the old saying about best-laid plans. So what do I do on the weekends? Work on my taxes? Work on my writing and painting? Attend to my work-in-progress? Well, the circus was in town so I went there on Saturday, and it was so great that I found all the children I could and took them on Sunday. Why be productive when you can go see lions, tigers, elephants, camels, and bite your fingernails while the trapeze artists and motorcycle maniacs perform to the jeers and laughter of a building full of children (that includes the adults)? Anyway, next weekend I'll get to the work-in-progress.

Congratulations to Ray Reinliard, who was recently appointed assistant secretary of child development and education by Governor Pete Wilson of California. This agency will advise the governor and develop policy on all issues affecting the lives of children in California including children's health, early childhood education, childcare, and development. It will also point to a reorganization of state government services for children to address their health, emotional, developmental, social, and educational needs.

Further congratulations to Peter Conway, who announced the birth of their second daughter, Suzannah French Conway, born on the same day as her mother, Mary McAllister Conway '76. Peter is in his fifth year as headmaster of Christ School, an Episcopal boys' boarding school near Ashville, N.C.

Bill Landmesser reports that he has recently joined the World Book/Childcraft sales force as a wonderful way to support his family, including his wife, Shirley, and children Martha 3 and Abigail 1, while pursing his hobby of painting. He is currently showing paintings at the Eastern Maine Medical Centers gallery space.

From Tacoma, Wash., Mark Haley reports that the candy business is slow but that many of his customers who are mass-market retailers are hurting. So they have been busy introducing new all-natural, European-style molded chocolate. Mark's wife, Nancy, and his boys, Graff 8 and Aidan 5 are back from a year in France.

Julie Shuer reports that her husband, SteveDavis, is a law partner at Armato, Gaimes, Weil, West & Epstein, an avid tennis player and a busy father to Benjamin 4 and Gabrielle 2.

Also, congratulations to Rob Christie and Nancy Carol Dixon, who were married in November at the Trinity Episcopal Church in Houston, Texas.

All of you who are Wall Street Journal fans, watch out for David Shribman '76, who writes a great column about the political arena. Shribman is clever with words, like "flirty New Englander" to describe Paul Tsongas '62. Read his column—it's wonderful.

Thanks, but no thanks, to Rick Ranger, who reminded us in his recent newsletter that most of us will be turning 40 this year. Since I can't skip it, the only remarkable change I plan to make is to change the radio station from classical to country the words are much more appropriate.
