Since my last effort I took a two-week sabbatical and had my other hip replaced. I'm rounding into shape and should be ready for anything by summer. For a while I thought that would be the only news to relate. However, by clever use of Ma Bell's device, I can give you a little more important news.

My man in Hanover, Dune Fitchet, tells me our former president, Jim Lynch, will replace Bob Kimball on the Alumni Council this spring. Jim will be representing the Dartmouth Clubs of Northern New England. Congrats Jim! We know you'll do a fine job just as you did as our fearless leader.

Duncan also informed me of long-range plans for himself, Ed Scheu, and Ray deWees to play golf in Ireland in September. In case you didn't know, Ray is again living in Ireland, though as I write he's somewhere in the wilds of Arizona. How come all these guys move around so much and I'm three blocks from where I was born?

Talked to Frank Cole. He's enjoying retirement from Merrill Lynch and still residing in Morrisville, Pa. Said he hadn't done much exciting except for a Hawaii vacation. His doctor son is now practicing in the Binghamton, N.Y., area.

I got into sort of a three-phone parlay with Buol Hinman, Ralph Smith, and FredWightman. When I called Buol's, wife Joan said, "He's outside using the snow blower." (This was March 12.) The following day I spoke to Buol himself and he said they had a foot of the stuff. Probably more than Hanover had all winter. He works occasionally at the family business, Rome Strip Steel, a 65-year-old enterprise. His sons pretty much run the show now. Buol was slated for some surgery on March 17. We all wish you well, Buol. He reported lunching recently in Rome with Jackand Ruth Howard, down from Skaneateles, N.Y.Jack was in Rome on business.

After my chat with Buol, I spoke with Ralph Smith. This was partly due to the quote in the current Alumni Magazine from our class notes years ago, wherein Bob Kimball wrote that Ralph lived on Skunks Misery Road in Locust Valley, N.Y. 'Tis sad to relate that is no more. No, not Skunks Misery Road—Ralph just doesn't live there anymore. He's still lawyering in N.Y.C. and commutes from Locust Valley on a daily basis. All right class, where's Locust Valley? You could look it up!

Both Buol and Ralph inquired about Fred Wightman. He made Reunion last June and then had a severe medical situation in August. However, he's now back working three days a week. Fred's been with National Bulk Carrier for 40 years. He's head of corporate insurance, and this business owns oil tankers, among other things.

I have been notified by die College that Richard Wetherill II died on July 1, 1991. We extend our sympathy to his family.
