As I write you all should have received John McClintock's newsletter. John probably had more classmate news than I, but I'll go with what I have. Those green cards go back to him, but I won't be offended if some of you care to write to me directly, telling all. Each time before I write this column I check with Messrs. Pierce, Fitchet, and Snickenberger to see if there is some big news to be reported out of Hanover. The big news is that there has been little or no snow this winter. I'm sure a lot of you recall the winter of The ground disappeared in November and I think there were a couple of minus-30 nights. An unnamed fraternity invited its pledges from our class to swim in the Connecticut River one chilly night. Oh, for the joys of youth!

When next you visit Hanover I recommend you visit the Hood Museum. There is a landscape painting hanging in the museum called "Forest Interior." It was painted by a Dartmouth artist, Roswell Shurdeff, and was donated by Pete Vogt '47 and his wife in memory of Jack Marlette. I got the details on this from Rosemary Marietta after McClintock told me about it. And, you art majors, don't tell me you remember old "Roz." He passed away in 1915. Rosemary reports seeing Sam and Sue Johnson frequently in Buffalo. But now that Sam's retired, he and Sue spend a lot of time in their new house in Keene Valley, which is in the Adirondacks near Lake Placid. Those of you who make the regular Keene Valley run now have a genial host and hostess in residence. I didn't clear this with Sam, but I'm sure he'd be delighted to see you.

I'm learning a lot about geography in this job. Awhile backl reported that Joe Spector spends half the year in Tangier, but I didn't know if in Chesapeake Bay or Morocco, North Africa. Well, I saw Joe in N.Y.C. at a Cornell Law School luncheon and got the scoop. It is in Morocco. I haven't the vaguest notion of the allurements awaiting one in Morocco. All I ever knew about it was a movie from our youth, "Road to Morocco," featuring Hope, Crosby, and Lamour. Didn't get an address. Maybe "Casbah #7?"

Frank Ettari, co-chair of our bequest committee with Jack Whitman, reports another $20,000 in the John Ledyard Pool. I'm told that our total bequest figure is now $771,814. Thank you, Frank and Jack, for all your efforts. On the subject of money, our Fund Chairman Tom Adams is moving into high gear, and you'll be hearing from him shortly.

Dartmouth's track team doesn't get a lot of media publicity, but son Jim '78 and I had the pleasure of seeing some of its members perform at the Millrose Games on February 7. Spurred on by the two-man cheering section, the Big Green posted a third-place finish in the two-mile relay and a stirring come-from- behind victory in the mile relay.

Sorry I have no more to report. See you next month. Bless you all.
