34 The Class Officers Weekend in Hanover was stimulating in many ways, but the big smash for attending '34s was receiving the "1992 Special Recognition Award" for extraordinary achievements in support of the College and the class over the years. It's a new award, and '34 was the first 2 5-years-out class to receive it.
A great many of you helped establish our fine record, but no one can match BillScherman for his continuing contribution as editor of our newsletter, which he has been editing since way back in 1935. Thank you, Bill, and thank you all!
Ted and Maggie Germann added Alabama to our list of states by moving to Maggie's hometown, Huntsville, where Ted is superintendent of grounds for their residential area. Dana Redington is another '34 heading the resident association in his retirement community in Concord, N.H.
John Murphy, now retired from Wiremold, was made director-emeritus. He takes frequent trips to such places as his condo in Palm Desert, Calif., where the Bob Hope Classic is played: Paul Ebbitt figured that 34 years teaching high-school English was a good base for retirement and is happy in his and Thelma's Newport, R.I. home.
Not everyone has shifted fully out of professional activities. Frank Lepreau still sees drug and alcohol patients daily in the public care facility he established in Fall River, Mass. Bob Offenbach is still active in his Management Recruiters firm, which recently lauded him for his long service and awarded him a clock and a gold watch.
Sport takes over for some. Chuck Rolfe gets his racquet out when Nick Xanthaky visits, and Henry Hazen comes by regularly. After a fine Southeast Asian cruise celebrating their 30th last winter, George and GiselleCollins landed in their new Rossmoor, Calif., residence which they enjoy with lots of activity like tennis, family nearby, and a hang-gliders club. Spike Fulton, up in Lyme, taught his last class of 4th to 6th-grade girl skiers, and he is now active in tennis.
We've ordered fine weather for our mini. Come join us September 18-19, enjoy the Penn game, and visit with your good friends.
