Dizzy Dean once said, "It ain't braggin if you done it," so let no one construe this as bragging: WE ARE THE CHAMPIONS! It's true. At Class Officers' Weekend in May, we were named 1992 Class of the Year. At only four years out, we're the youngest class ever to receive the award for classes 25 years out and younger.
I quote from the award certificate: "Your unity is the envy of many Dartmouth classes. Your president is in almost constant contact with you... the 108 class agents who volunteered to work for the College and your class are spread out nationwide.... You've managed a number of successful and festive minireunions all across the country 'BB Today, your exemplary newsletter, keeps you posted on class and College matters .... All this and you're only four years out of the College!"
Kudos to President Dan Estabrook, Treasurer Bill Keating, Mini-Reunion Chairs Elizabeth Miles Reese and John Rcplogle, Head Agent Jane Grassing, and Newsletter Editor Jack Steinberg. And, of course, to all of you, whose interest in die class's welfare and participation in its activities made the award possible.
This month's correspondents are a prime slice of '88 excellence. I mean, can any other class match the resume of Rachel Dratch? The former Donna Reed look-alike has been playing little Cindy Brady in the Off-Broad-way production of The Real Live Brady Bunch, "making a living playing blond TV characters from yesteryear... just goes to show you that watching lots of TV can further your career." Now if only Jerry Zaks '67 would hire Rachel for one of his big Lincoln Center productions, she'd be all set. (Note: Brad Drazen '90 plays Greg Brady alongside Rachel. When he gets paid to impersonate Dick Van Dyke, he'll be in Rachel's league.)
Rachel also sends these updates: MaryFlounders works for a marketing and consulting firm in New York and sings in a chorus in her spare time. The chorus will perform in Carnegie Hall this fall. ErikTieze is performing with the New Jersey Shakespeare Festival this summer and preparing for a fall wedding (no word on his betrothed). Sonja Kuftinec is studying for a Ph.D in theater at Stanford and is studying the theater of Bali in that country this summer. Chris Kelly has finished his second year at Columbia Med and had the lead in a school production of House of BlueLeaves. Tom Ward tends bar by night and works in an art studio by day in New York. Mara Rabinowitz is currendy choosing which graduate school for social work to attend, either NYU, Columbia, or Wisconsin-Madison. And Al Samuels lives in Hanover doing freelance TV commercials and improv comedy.
Also doing well—and celebrating his first wedding anniversary this summer—is AndrewGlass, who married Jennifer Reaser '87 last June. Andrew finished, his master's in architecture at Harvard and received his "Crimsonstained" (his words) diploma in June.
Another recent diploma recipient is Chris school in Worcester, Mass., and will soon begin her residency in pediatrics at the Medical College ofVirginia in Richmond. Chris notes that her partner in crime Kristie Sells will be returning to school for an M.B.A this fall; Karen Walters is still working and taking actuarial exams in Hobcken, N.J., and hanging out with Danielle Green; Buzz Moore is substitute teaching and coaching a high school softball team in Ellsworth, Maine; and, lasdy, joining Chris on a ski weekend in Stowe last winter were Dave Nitkin, Rick Rosania, and JeffDion, who's starting his M.B.A. work at Duke this fall.
Mystery Woman
"I've heard rumors about other folks, but nothing I can confirm, and with all the lawyers in our class now, I'd be afraid to put it in writing!" Chris said. Well, add me to the list. I start at the University of Tennessee College of Law this August, after spending the last few months knocking around Generation X-style.
