In the May issue MarthaHennessey mused about the (national) Presidential race and about who would step forward to serve as president of our class. For those who were not in attendance at our

reunion in ctading me,dueto the conflict with Father's Day—your new class officers are President Jerry Daly, VP Ken Monteiro, Secretary Amy Gillenson, Treasurer Melanie FisherMatte, Alumni Council Rep Judy Burrows Csatari, and Mini-Reunion Chair KathleenBrewer Doran. Bill Schillhammer remains as newsletter editor, and you'll have to read his next edition to find out who constitutes the executive committee.

I have Bill to thank for nominating me as secretary, and I look forward to renewing old acquaintances and making new ones over the next 60 months. Although I left the world of politics last year (I worked for Governor Mario Cuomo for five years), I remain "hooked," particularly in this Presidential year. I would be most interested in knowing where our class stands. If people are interested in sharing their views, I will dutifully report on the pulse of the class of'76.

Before Martha left for England for the summer, she kindly passed along news which had not fit into her last column. Jeff Long is a cardiologist and was married last February to Margaret Lococo, Loyola '85. In addition to Jeff himself, Dartmouth was represented at his wedding by Chris '84 and Carol Cross and John Pancoast. He reports that Jeff Shifftin left his anaesthesia practice at Alary Hitchcock and is now in private practice in Vail, Colo. He and wife Eileen were "skiing up a storm." What's up now that the snow has melted?

Bill Calhoun has the guts to write what I believe many readers of this column believe to be true about themselves: "It's tough to send news when what's newsworthy about me is what I am not." Bill reports that he is not married, has no children, nor an advanced degree, nor any money to his name. He lives and work in VVoonsocket, R.I., tuning and rebuilding pianos. His most famous client is the Newport Jazz Festival. He has a wife, Emily (but is not married?), two big dogs who double as kids in a pinch, a technical certificate from the New England Conservatory, and, perhaps the best news of all, his time is his own. Good for you, Bill.

The Chattanooga Times reported last February that Alton Chapman was one of two community activists to be among the first inductees of the newly created Leadership of Youth Hall of Fame created by the area Boy Scout council. Al is executive director of Inner City Ministries, which run several programs I lint: serve inner-city youth. He was in banking before quitting his job several years ago to work fulltime with youth.

Neil Van Dyke was elected president of the Golden Eagle Resort in Stowe. Neil continues as general manager "with the continued objective of making the Golden Eagle a special place to visit." Any special rates for your classmates, Neil?

Martha made it sound like this might be a tough job, but I enjoyed writing this first column. It probably helps if there is news to report! So please write.
