The dog days of August. With a pennant race in the Bronx, and my PC banging against a deadline, I will move quickly to the news.

Congratulations to one and all from Greg Yadley, our head agent. We had our best non-reunion year ever, and were up an impressive 18 percent over last year. Your dollars help make Dartmouth the special place we remember.

John Burke, our 25 th Reunion chairman, reports that his thoroughbred, Don't Look Up, raced at Rockingham and Saratoga this summer wearing Dartmouth green and white for her silks. Aiiy of the faithful who have plunked their money on her have made donations to the various state racing associations.

Dave Mechlin and Barry Weeks were both re-elected to the executive committee of the Dartmouth Alumni Association of New York City. As a percentage of the total number of classmates living in N.Y.C., this puts our class far ahead of any of the other classes.

A real nice letter from Bob Baird which I'll excerpt: "About a year ago I left Paine Webber and went into business for myself. I now clear through Merrill Lynch and Morgan Stanley, and do commodities through lowa Grain. I have found through the years of being a broker that managed money was the most successful part of my business. I have dealt with a management firm that has averaged almost 20 percent for more than 17 years (with no losing years), and rather than share the fees with Paine Webber, I decided I would be much better off just taking them myself. I love the commute to my downstairs office. And I actually find I service my clients better alone than with a major firm. My phone number is (800) 643 -115 5. I'd love to hear from classmates (some of whom have been as bad as I about communication). I'm also still married and have two daughters. Jim Neville would love to see Courtney's work ethic in soccer. She's 12 and practices all the time. She was selected to a hell of a program called Villa Soccer (though it's an under-14 team and she's up against some BIG chicks). My other daughter, Stephanie, hasn't found any organized athletics she loves (except running), though she has more talent than her older sister. They are both excellent students, I'm happy to say. I'm still at it in the masters running program. I don't race that often, but last year in practice I ran a 4:39 mile, and I'm close to sub-33 in a 1 OK when I'm on."

We are planning a mini-reunion this fall or winter for a site off-campus. More will follow in the newsletter.
