There are many '81s in the news and making news recently. Lynn Noel, as it turns out, has never really left her Dartmouth roots. In a recent Boston Globe write-up Lynn talks about her twin loves of music and rivers of the North. After graduating from the Big D, Lynn took a 650-mile canoe trip down the Yukon River (better she than me!) which got her hooked for good. In the past ten years, she has paddled nine of the major rivers of Canada and written and performed original songs about the rivers, their history, and some of the explorers who voyaged down them. Lynn is currently a research fellow at Dartmouth's Institute on Canada and the U.S. and recently completed a book on Canada's river heritage. We knew she could sing, but. . .! Anyone wanting to reach Lynn can do so through the College.

Bill "Fred" Sherman reports in, and I quote: "San Francisco's weather was perfect for the next to last '81 Phi Delt to get married, that being Bob Crowe. His brothers Andrew Crowe '85 and Jeff Crowe '7B were in the wedding party. The last Phi holdout is Charlie Craig. The story of the weekend was not the beautiful scenery or Olga, the ravishing bride, but the current population explosion caused by those in attendance. Tim Phillips was there with wife Nora and new son Jonathan, who seemed quite interested in PeterCaron and wife Jane's new daughter Maddy. They were frequently and lovingly observed by John Simonson and wife Pam, expecting their second, and Kent and Cathy LewisWhitaker, reheating the oven for number five. Kent and Cathy have moved to Amoco head- quarters in Chicago. In between kids and contemplating an attempt at number three were Theresa and Michael Leede. Observing cautiously were the Dave Ploughs, not sure whether or not to get into the diaper derby. Watching these former Webster Avenue warriors carrying baby bags was culture shock."

When not moonlighting as an Alumni Magazine reporter, Fred is a financial representative with Plan America Financial Services.

Patsy Fisher-Harris has been re-elected to the executive committee of the Dartmouth Alumni Association of New York City. The DAANYC oversees volunteer activities for alumni in New York City and also governs the Dartmouth Club there. Patsy's day job is being Dartmouth's associate director of Alumni Affairs.

Thom Smith has been named vice president, business development director, and principal of Hawbaker, Maddigan and Partners. The firm is a merger of two existing Pittsburgh-based firms and is a full-service marketing and management communications agency. With all these titles, Thom, I hope they're paying you more!

In other business-related news, Governor Weld of Massachusetts named Doron Ezickson as director of the state office of International Trade and Investment. Doron has been on the governor's staff since 1991, most recently as deputy chief of staff and director of operations. He has focused on policy development in such areas as economic development and international trade.

All for now. Cheers!
