Hi there! After four years of being your class secretary, scrutinizing newspapers, TV and other media for information, my research for this column led me right over the precipice with a major piece of misinformation on Walt Peterson. Using information I had just received, and with little research on my part, I wrote in the summer issue that Walter was president of Franklin Pierce College and had received the Robert Frost Award. Sorry, Governor Walter R. Peterson '47, I goofed! I incorrectly passed your fame and glory onto our Walter J. Peterson, who is pretty famous in his own right. Our Walt received the Goldin Foundation's Award for Excellence in Education in 1991, and this year received the Edward F. Cales Foundation's "Terrific Teachers Making a Difference" award. Walter joined the teaching staff at Norwood public schools in 1960 after obtaining his master's at Harvard. He farther served on 12 visiting committees of the New England Association of Schools and Colleges. Finally he has completed two Horace Mann Grant projects. Maybe not a governor, but what a success in his chosen field! Walt and his wife, Judy, live in Walpole, Mass.

Now south to North Carolina and Hilton Head, where Lou and Bev Gerber have become major restaurateurs following their move from Fairfield County, Conn., seven years ago. According to the Register Star, they found their dream when they purchased the restaurant just two days after it came on the market. Lou had been in the marketing consulting business for 27 years. He was also a food and restaurant critic for a Gannet Newspaper in Connecticut, and Bev was a very successful real-estate broker. Recognizing this was the chance of a lifetime, they took the plunge and have since transformed the eatery into a fashionable, popular restaurant with a staff of 55 people. Cafe Europa's Low Country breakfast specialties include a variety of omelets and Belgian waffles. Luncheon menus offer crepes, pastas, quiches, and soups, with dinner featuring a variety of fresh seafood and great wines. An especially lovely time to dine is at sunset. (Lou is this advertising worth about two dinners?)

Many of you may have seen the press on the Boston Celtics and their loss of Reggie Lewis and Dave Gavitt's leadership. One quote of interest about this trying time is from The New York Times: "Isn't it amazing that here in conservative, staid New England, and Boston, that this soft young man from Baltimore had to leave us to make us understand that it was all right to tell us that we love each other, and that we care for each other."

Just heard from Tom Seagal that BillPettway died of a heart attack in September. More to follow.

Please communicate.
