As I write this month’s column, I am packing my bags to head off to Hanover for Dartmouth night and the Harvard game. Our class will have its meeting Saturday morning at Susan and Peter Williamson’s house in Lyme. Some of you may remember the song from “An American in Paris” entitled, “I Build a Stairway to Paradise.” Well, let me tell you, the view from Susan and Peter’s house looking west across the Connecticut River makes me think that they have come pretty close to paradise. Do hope that our fellow class members will be able to con- centrate on the class business at hand.

I note that another ’SB has visions of sugar plums and retirement in his mind. Jack Wolper suggested that after some 30-plus years in ophthalmology in Quincy, Mass., the time for retirement is not too far away. With my failing eyesight, I hope that he heads my way when the day arrives.

Our class continues its interest in Dart- mouth athletics. Frank Blatz and Don Voss have both contributed to the new Dartmouth Athletics Endowment. The fund was estab- lished to build a foundation of permanent financial support for the College’s athletic and recreational programs.

How about our own John Murphy's wife, Johanna, being named the new director of the Capitol Branch of the American Red Cross? Congratulations, Johanna. I wonder how many other of our wives are involved in sim- ilar community responsibilities? My wife, Wink, has been involved in soup kitchens here in Stamford, Conn., as well as earlier in San Mateo and San Francisco, Calif.

I have received notice of the deaths of two of our classmates. In September Harry Wirth died suddenly while visiting in Albuquerque, N.M. Classmates who so desire may make a contribution to a charity of your own choos- ing in his name. Paul Robertson also died in September while in Colorado. Contribu- tions in his memory may be made to die Paul K. Robertson Scholarship Fund at the Unit- ed Services Funds, San Antonio, Texas. Full obituaries will be forthcoming.
