Connecticut State Senator George Jepsen responded to my query in the last column, clarifying the outcome of his November election. George reports that he was re-elected "by a comfortable margin" and currently serves as chairman of the Connecticut Legislature's Judiciary Committee. Priorities for his legislative agenda this year include protecting reproductive choice (editorial comment: thank YOU!!), strong gun control, and trying not to raise taxes.
William Saubert joined the firm of Arthur D. Little in April, as a director of management consulting specializing in issues facing the financial-services industry. Bill has had more than 16 years of experience in financial and management consulting. In this position he provides technology strategy, operations, and organizational consulting services to a broad array of wholesale and retail financial institutions. Bill lives in Manhattan.
The following was received from Paul D. Williams: "1993 is proving to be a year of many changes. We moved from Cleveland, Ohio, to Kansas City, Mo., in August of 1992, and I have joined a private practice in pediatrics. I was formerly on staff at Cleveland's Metro Health Medical Center. We arrived in Kansas City in time to deliver a beautiful baby boy, Christopher Paul Wlliams. We are already saving a spot for him in the class of 2014!"
My attempts at engendering some guilt among classmates through my pleas for news worked. I received a nice note from Milton K. Harsh, who lives in Birmingham, Ala., with his wife, Allison. He writes, "Approaching anniversary number four, no children." Milton is in his ninth year with Porter, White & Company Inc., Investment Bankers. He describes his work as "helping small to medium-sized companies do deals—acquisitions, growth equity, refinancing, etc." Milton gets to New York several times a year and generally manages to get together with Dave Clark and Tom Swartz.
I also succeeded with Jody Karp, who wrote that she hates to see people beg. Jody and Dave Magnus sent news (and a picture) of their second child, Abigail Elisabeth, born on April 5, 1993. They are still living the good life in Corrales, N.M.
On a persona] note, I recently sold my home and am in a state of transition. I'm still working as the director of a foundation for Loretto, a large not-for-profit which provides a wide array of services to the elderly. Some of my friends think I may have begun to take my work too seriously, having taken up temporary residence in a retirement community which we manage. The residents, all "seniors," seem to enjoy having me and Humphrey (my mastiff) around, and I am rather enjoying their company (for the little amount of time I'm ever "home"). As a temporary arrangement, it affords me the opportunity to enjoy the summer without the responsibilities associated with home ownership, and to make some decisions about where I want to go next. So please note the new address, but in pencil, since it is likely to change again by September.
Enjoy the summer, and, as always, keep the news coming!
