WHEN THE FACULTY OF ARTS AND Sciences voted last year to reform Dartmouth's curriculum, it was clear that the changes would require both reallocation of existing resources and some additional funding. In a spring-term letter to his colleagues, Dean of the Faculty James Wright informed the College that financial constraints (a need for an additional $1.5 million, to be exact) will be ing the bulk of changes an additional year, the class of 1998 rather than '97. Meanwhile, urged Wright, departments should continue planning and implementing a minor option to be available as of the class of 1994 and a major "culminating/integrating experience" for seniors.
The cost of endowing an income of a million and a half? About $30 million.
