In late August I received a rather lengthy letter from Barry Sullivan, sent from his new quarters at 10570 Main Street B-401, Fairfax, VA 22030-7113. Barry mentioned the joys and problems of moving from a large house to a much smaller apartment.

Then he went on at some length about the concerns people have these days for his welfare, such as whether he is "KEEPING BUSY and GETTING ENOUGH EXCERCISE." Also, they're wondering if he is, "taking the opportunity to VOLUNTEER." Barry's response to that is, "I have been a volunteer for all and sundry GOOD CAUSES for most of my adult life. Now I have modified my readiness so to do to some extent, I will" no longer 'ACCEPT THE OPPORTUNITY' to be chairman of anything; I will do someone shot things...." It sounded to me like something Andy Rooney might have written. Anyway, thanks to Barry for an amusing letter.

My faithful correspondent Mac Hill has once again come to my rescue with news of another classmate. Jim Pearson wrote Mac that he has been enjoying retired life in Scottsdale, Ariz. (Although when I talked with him in early September it was 105 degrees in Arizona, and for one day at least he would have preferred our low 70s, clear-as-a-bell weather in Yarmouth, Maine.) Jim is among the majority of us who reached 80 this year, and his wife and one of his daughters threw him a surprise party down in Tucson. Twenty-five of his children, grandchildren, in-laws, and three great-grandchildren attended the gala affair. Also during the summer, Jim and MyraAnn took a cruise on a Royal Viking ship, exploring those magnificent Norwegian fiords.

Dede Foster also took a scenic tour last summer. She and a friend flew to Fairbanks, Alaska, and from there went by rail to Denali National Park, where the scenery was indeed spectacular. Then down to Anchorage, where they boarded the Regal Princess for a trip down the inland passageway to Vancouver, with fascinating sights of glaciers along the way. Dede says the whole trip was wonderfully exciting.

Have a Happy Thanksgiving!
