Don Hagerman (sporting a hardhat) was pictured in the local press as one of the volunteers clearing land for the sixth new house to be built by Habitat for Humanity of the Kearsarge/Sunapee Area. Dick Upton was honored as one of the"most brilliant legal minds" in New Hampshire. He claimed this made him feel somewhat uneasy, reminding us of Harvard President Lowell's caution that "a little flattery, like nicotine, is not particularly harmful unless inhaled too deeply."
Barbara and Lloyd Markson, having attended the first Alumni College 30 years ago, did it again last August and were delighted with the entire program. Maury Rapf took off on a 50-day freighter trip from the West Coast to the South Pacific, going to and from the East Coast via Amtrak. Harriet and LouBookheim took their 16-year-old granddaughter on a whirlwind trip to Indianapolis, Albany, New York City, and London. Lou notes he doubts that they missed a single casde or museum. Dave Goldman reports that his neighbor Doc Beach looks great and spends a great deal of time traveling with his son, who designs golf courses for Jack Nicklaus.
Sam Rees, his wife, Molly, having died recently, is selling his home in Kansas City in order to move near his daughter in Tacoma, Wash. Art Flinner has a fascinating job as curator of a military museum in the Pikesville, Md., military reservations. Having been a battery commander while participating in the Normandy invasion, he is looking forward to attending the 50 th anniversary of D-Day in France. Jim Berkey, not being satisfied with full retirement, continues to participate in his construction and real-estate development business. He also operates a private security vault for precious metals and foreign exchange, at the same time servicing the computer industry. If the truth were known, however, his daughter Joan really runs the show. We continue our attempts to track down the elusive Fred Zukal, who may or may not be entitled to membership in the Great Class of 1935.
Since our last report we have lost Bob Carr, Jim Coppeto, Grif Griffith, Steve Hopkins, Don Koehler, and Bill Mann.
