Yes! Bobby and the Corvairs! I can hardly believe that my occasional daydreams in these notes are about to come true. When Bob Barr told me that Bobby and the Corvairs were a done deal for Friday night of reunions, I let out a screech that should have gotten me fired (and probably would have, if some of the folks I work with had not years before heard Roy Davis's rendition of "primal screams," which supposedly tied back to some early gut at Dartmouth). I won't say that Livingston Taylor on Saturday night won't also recall years gone by but—with the Corvairs being a true part of the reuning classes (Todd Keiller and Tom Spiliotis, Kim Coffman '74, Lex McCusker '74, and Keith Luckenbach '72)the nostalgia should be too much to miss. So, if you haven't already returned your reservations, drop this magazine and get to the post office! Bob has to hear from you by June 1.
Speaking of June and have-to's, P.T. Sehl asked me to remind you that time is closing in on our Alumni Fund effort as well. We are running well ahead and should have a strong showing for our rerunion campaign. Please remember that all pledges must be paid by June30 to count in this year's figures. This is a change from previous years. And if you haven't already pledged, please write a check and mail it post-haste!
Back on the nostalgia front, Bob Barr shared a letter from our adopted brother, BillSlesnick, that will certainly hold interest for many of you. Bill is just about to finish his last course at Dartmouth and will be retiring after 42 years of teaching 33 of those at Dartmouth. It doesn't sound like he plans to slow down much in retirement, however. Bill's incredibly active involvement in both national and world Scouting as a member of the B.S.A. International Committee will continue, as will his love of travel. On another "reunion" front, Bill had a chance to visit with some of his Oxford contemporaries and old St. Paul's students, all North American Rhodes Scholars, at Georgetown last June.
Proctor Page '42, "proud papa," wrote a truly warm two-page letter updating us on BobPage. Bob and Loretta "Lori" Tuck were married on Labor Day 1990 on Proctor and Ruth Page's front lawn in Burlington, Vt. Since then, they have had two daughters, Lauren Elizabeth, born September 1, 1991, and Alyssa Ruth, born February 22, 1994. (Proctor and Ruth have an enormous amount of energy and are extremely experienced as babysitters, so are planning to sit while Bob and Lori join us for our 25th Reunion.) Bob is district geologist, Central America, for Noranda Exploration, operating out of Hermosillo Sonora, Mexico. He has been with Noranda since receiving his Ph.D. in geology from the University of California, Berkeley, in 1979. He is a charter member (the only North American) at the new golf course that opened up across from his new home in Hermosillo (population 300,000) in February. Just before Proctor and Bob played the first nine holes, Bob was offered a locker next to the Governor of Sonora, but gracefully declined in order to keep his distance from politicians!
See you very soon!
