Heat and humidity not withstanding, the 25th Reunion was a thing of beauty. I suggest, for those of you who didn't make it, that you starting making plans for the 30th. Knowing that Dave Prentice will give you a detailed commentary of the event, I will be brief. An unofficial reckoning put the classmate total at about 230. You may "recall from an earlier column that the record is 320. Lots of family members came with the total attendance at just under 600. Although not a record, that is just about double what we got at our 20th.
The oldest child present (at least as tar as I knew) was Roger Waterman's daughter Maralie, 24 The youngest child was KenPaul's daughter-to-be at minus-two months. The largest group was the John Lallis clan, with six kids. John does not travel light.
Traveling the farthest were Jeff: Kelley (Switzerland), Dick Anschuetz (Alaska), and Mike Antal (Hawaii). The shortest trip was made by Oscar Romero (Hanover).
There were some changes among the class officers: Norm Jacobs has taken over as class president from Dick Glovsky and has given his job as reunion chairman to Paul Tuhus. Both Norm and Paul have big shoes to fill. Dale Christensen is now our Alumni Fund Head Agent. The rest of the officers remain as they were.
Our donation to the Alumni bund this year is in the $1.3 -million range. Congratulations go to many people, especially John Leavitt and Bill Howell, our outgoing head agents, and Bill Kneisel and Dale Christensen who headed the Reunion Giving Committee.
For those of you in the great Southwest, Roger Waterman agreed to (actually, insisted on) hosting a mini-reunion in Los Alamos, N.M., sometime around Easter. Watch this space for details.
I have to apologize to Bill Stableford for years I have thought that his wife, Karen, was the only one in the family with grace and style.
However, the job Bill did running the memorial service shows that he has learned from Karen over the years. What could have been a "downer" was instead a moving and uplifting end to our reunion. Good work, Bill!
Some quick corporate news: Tom Snow has been elected as a fellow of the American College of Commercial Finance Lawyers. Tom works for the firm of Carlton, Fields, Ward, Emmanuel, Smith, and Cutler in the Tampa office. He practices in the area of financing transactions and loan workouts.
Lee Demas has recently become senior vice president and director of national accounts claims at Associated Aviation Underwriters, an insurance company pool organized to write aviation insurance. His primary responsibility will be the management of all airline and product-liability claims.
Bob Luckury has joined Dufresne-Henry a consulting engineering firm based in Vermont. Bob will be senior project manager in the Mechanical Engineering Division. The Homecoming Game this year is against Yale on October 15. We will have the usual pre-game in the usual spot (across from Topliff).
One last note to a little girl m Colorado who couldn't make it to our reunion: there is a message for you hidden in the first seven sentences of this column. More on the reunion next month. Take care and write.
