Lots seems to be happening with '67 careers these days. The Wall Street Journal and other business publications saw Will Boddie's promotion
to chairman of the management board at Ford-Werke, Ford's German operations center, as part of a major global reorganization plan by Ford. Will is known at Ford as the executive who led the design team that engineered the current version of the Mustang on a limited budget. Most recently Will has been executive director of Ford's small and medium vehicle center in Germany.
In Fairfax County, John English has survived a three-month search to be named the new principal of Langley High School. John has served in many roles in education, from teaching in Micronesia with the Peace Corps to directing early childhood programs to directing The Learning Connection, a nonprofit consulting firm. Up in Maine Joe Carleton is having to run to keep his job. Joe, who is a lawyer in Wells, is running for his fourth term as the Republican state representative from his district. Job creation, improving education, and streamlining government seem to be the key issues in the campaign. It sounds familiar.
In the mail I received a picture of a beautiful house in Rhode Island that I would love to own. It seems Newport architect Jim Estes has won another award. This time it was the Custom Home Merit Award for this waterfront home in Jamestown. Closer to me, in New Jersey, Dave Houston has been elected chairman of the Counselors of Real Estate. Dave is one busy guy. In addition to his real-estate business, he is a partner in three industrial parks and has served on advisory committees for both the Port Authority and the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection. And perhaps the most inspiring award of the month went to HaydenYoung. Hayden wrote that the highlight of turning 50 was being named most valuable player in a faculty-student basketball game in which he scored the first basket. There is hope for all of us. Remember to save October 3-4, 1997, for the world's best 30th Reunion and football weekend in Hanover.
