Mary and Bob Engelman are spending the winter in Boca Raton and have had dinners with Augusta and Bob Goodman, Gisele and George Collins, Mary and Bill Barnet, and Barbara and Stan Smoyer, all from neighboring Florida communities. In late March they are taking a cruise from Hong Kong to Singapore via Vietnam and Thailand, and then on to Hanover the first week in May for Class Officers' Weekend.
Spoke to Syl and Dr. Win Watts, who have been living in Vero Beach for almost 20 years. Both are well and happy, and Win must be in pretty good shape—plays 18 holes of golf on successive days. Ed Davis, in Spring Hill, Fla., is doing his part to support the medical profession by entrusting them with his various ailments. His gout is under control and his heart doctor tells him that one quarter of a heart is better than none. He's mad at one doctor who won't even allow him one beer a day. He is seriously thinking of leaving Florida and settling down in Pine Bush, N.Y.
Talked to Marge and Bob Griffin, who stopped off to see Anne and Babe Shea in Vero. They are fine and already looking forward to mini-reunion in September. And Babe is feeling better and has picked up a couple of pounds.
Congratulations to Gerry and BillScherman on their 35th wedding anniversary. Bill planned to attend the Polar Bear Dive-in at Occom Pond on February 9 with the Carnival celebrants, who claim the water is warmer than the below-zero air. If he did take the plunge, I hope he'll be able to make the mini-reunion, September 20.
With sadness, we report the deaths of two classmates, Jim Ballard on February 10,1996, and Al Tawse on March 7, 1996—and also Sarah Palfrey Danzig, wife of our classmate Jerry, and for years one of the world's renowned tennis players, on February 26, 1996. Our sincerest sympathies to their families.
