Greetings, classmates. I want to start off with an interesting paragraph from a thoughtful letter from Bill Gunn. Bill, as you will see, went through an amazing career change. "Until 1975, I was vice president of Time-Life Films; 1975 was a big year. While I'd really enjoyed Time Inc., I'd also become very interested in psychology, having gotten a master's at night from N.Y.U. I decided to leave Time-Life and get a Ph.D. in clinical psychology. So Marilyn and I and our three daughters packed up and moved to Chapel Hill, N.C. I have been studying at Duke since 1976 and on December 5, I became a doctor. I plan to eventually open a small practice in psychotherapy." Bill, Marilyn, and their three daughters (13, 11, and seven) enjoy North Carolina. Marilyn is involved in a variety of activities ranging from teaching to the raising of money for the public acquisition of open space land. Roy Lewicki lives about a mile from Bill in Chapel Hill and is in charge of the M.B.A. program at Dukf. Bill also said that Eric Oxboel lives in Pleasantville, N.Y., and works for Chubb and Company. Having gone through a career change myself, I admire Bill's guts to make a change and his wife's patience to support him. Any of you classmates disenchanted with your present career should derive some moral support from Bill's courage to make the big change.
Philip McFerrin wrote, "I married Thea Coulis on June 16, 1979. She is a graduate of the Jordan College of Music at Butler University in Indianapolis. Thea is continuing to teach in the local public schools while I am in the legal and research staff of Merdinger and Associates, a firm of employee benefit consultants and actuaries with offices in the Chicago Loop."
John Blakey wrote, "I am in my seventh year as an assistant professor of classics (teaching Latin) at Lenoir-Rhyne, a small liberal arts college in North Carolina. My wife Karla and I have a three-year-old daughter named Meg."
Brian Randall said that the brokerage office he manages in Belleview, Ill., has become a branch office of A. G. Edwards and Son Inc. On September 12, John Brian Randall joined his sister Emily and mother Evelyn.
Ed Williams is in the U.S. Attorney's office, southern district of New York, civil division. He carries a large case load, giving him plenty of opportunity to get into federal court. He is still an ardent runner and hopes to enter any footraces that may be scheduled at reunion. (The only footraces I know of will be to the head after voluminous beer drinking.)
Late note from Roger Simon. "Have written a Universal movie, Family Dream, starring Richard Pryor and Cecily Tyson, to appear in theaters near you in August of this year."
Marc Kirschner has terminated his relationship with his former firm and announced the formation of a partnership for the practice of law under the firm name of Gelberg and Kronovet, with offices at 711 Third Avenue, New York, N.Y. 10017.
That's it for this month. I hope you all are getting psyched up for reunion - June 13-15.
